Time Keeping Assignment

Hello! I kept track of my time on Monday, October 6, 2025, from 3:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Here is what I did:

Woke up and got ready for work; showered, got dressed, and prepared my things for the day — 0.50

Took the first train (33 minutes); waited briefly for the transfer — 0.50

Took the second train to work (29 minutes); listened to music on the way — 0.50

Clocked in at work and began setting up the store for opening; prepared machines and supplies — 0.25

Organized donuts on the shelf and restocked the display — 0.50

Assisted customers, made drinks and sandwiches, and handled the register — 3.50

Took a 30-minute break; had a snack and rested — 0.50

Broke down boxes for disposal and cleaned up the basement — 0.75

Clocked out and got on the train home; relaxed and listened to music — 1.00

Walked home (got off at the wrong stop, ended up taking a longer route) — 0.50

Total time: 8.50 hours

My reaction:
At first, I thought keeping track of my time would be annoying, but it actually made me realize how much I do in a day without thinking about it. I didn’t notice before how early I start and how much time goes into just commuting and preparing for work. Writing it down helped me see that small tasks, like cleaning or setting up, really add up over time. I also realized how easily time can slip away when something unexpected happens, like missing a stop. Overall, I felt more aware of how I spend my time and what parts of my day take the most energy.

Timekeeping

Hi! I kept track of my time doing homework on Friday, October 3, 2025. 12:30pm – 5:00pm

Started to do my legal memorandum. I read the fact pattern, selected the important facts and began to draft the memo – 1.0

Read a chapter for my civil law and procedure class, took notes about what the chapter was about and defined words I was unfamiliar with – 1.0

Revised my resume and cover letter – 0.50

Read most of Hume on Personal Identity – 1.0

Gave myself a break after all of that homework to watch a movie – 1.0

My reaction: I was expected that this would be annoying to track what I’m doing. However, it was surprising to see the around of time I was taking to finish one homework. But I never realized how often I was getting distracted and how that impacted the time I spent on my homework.

Timekeeping

Hi All,

I kept track of my time on Saturday, October 4, 2025, 9:00am – 3:00pm

  • Woke up and worked out at home – 1
  • Made and ate breakfast which was toaster strudel – 0.25
  • Cleaned apartment – swept and mopped my room, the bathroom, kitchen, living and dining room – 1
  • Did some laundry – sorted clothes and then went to the laundry room in my building washed, dried and folded clothes – 1.5
  • Went suit shopping – drove to suit store, tried on a few suits and then drove back home – 1.25
  • Ordered lunch from Chick-Fil-A and ate – 1

Keeping track of time in such a detailed way was bit much because it felt like I needed to give extra detail for everything it did. But in a work environment it can be helpful to see if your time is being spent in a productive way.

Date: Saturday, September 27, 2025
Time: 6:00 AM – 10:00 PM

6:00 AM – 2:00 PM (8.0 hours)
Went to work early in the morning. Helped with customer service, kept the store clean, and made sure everything was ready for the customers. I worked straight through my shift until 2 PM.

2:00 PM – 3:00 PM (1.0 hour)
I came back home from work. I took a shower and ate lunch. I relaxed a little after a long day.

3:00 PM – 6:00 PM (3.0 hours)
I did my homework and reading for other college classes. Focused on writing and reviewing assignments for English and Law class.

6:00 PM – 10:00 PM (4.0 hours)
Watched a movie and relaxed for the rest of the evening. I ate dinner and spent time on my phone before going to bed.

My Reaction: At first, I thought keeping track of my time would be boring, but it actually helped me see how my day goes. I realized that most of my time is spent working and studying, and I don’t usually notice how fast the day passes. Writing it down made me more aware of how I use my time. It also showed me that I need to plan more time for myself to relax. I think this was a good exercise to understand how time management is important for school, work, and life.

Hi Classmates & Professor C, I kept track of my time during and after school on Monday , October 6, 2025, 10:00am-2:00pm.

I take the train and arrive at school earlier reviewing notes I took the day before – 0.45

I then went  to my first morning class being Civil Law & Procedure, where the professor helped us in writing our first memo draft . – 1.25

I then walked down a floor to my mathematics class where we were taking our first assesment on the material we were learning(converting fractions into percent, calculating original price of items before they had a percentage off, etc.) – 1.25

I went to the food pantry looking for fresh produce . – 0.25

I then decided to take the bus back home instead of the train since it was a hot day and I love the view of NYC – 0.75

In my perspective, actively looking at the time I was spending seemed intriguing as we all take advantage of time. But most importantly it made me do self reflecting. My time management was organized, but lacked dept (IT WAS BORING) now I’m curious on how I can make my days better and more active outside of school work.

Hi Classmates & Professor Kerin E. Coughlin, I kept track of my time during school on Monday , October 6, 2025, 7:00am-1:00pm.

I set up my alarm the night before to start my day. My morning routine started off with brushing my teeth, taking a shower and doing my skin routine. -0.75

I picked myself an outfit for school. The outfit consist of a grey jean, white shirt and my new balance shoes. – 0.50

I left my house and went to the deli store to buy myself some snacks for school. Later, I took the train for almost a ride of 10 stops or more. – 1.0

Waited for my friend, then Walked from the train station to the school at city tech. – 0.50

Arrived at my morning Civil Law class; professor was explaining  how to use the proper elements of how to write a memo draft. Also going over chapter 5 of the book “Civil Practice for Paralegals in New York State”. – 1.25

My friend and I met up to get breakfast so we could hang out during our break, we were talking about our friendship from high school into now. Later we walked to the park & I was reading chapter 6 of my “Civil Practice for Paralegals. – 1.0

During my break I was taking notes & reading an article for my English course called “The flowers”. – 1.0

My point of view on time management was such a great activity. I was able to see the amount of things I could get done during six hours from morning to my afternoon. This reminds me of taking Regents exams during high school because we were supposed to finish the exam in 3 hours. I could see that I take my sweet time reading my classwork such as identifying important details of words. further,  I will continue keeping track of my time because it helps me continue on my daily activity without getting distractions.

Law in Culture Review

The film used in this review is titled Double Jeopardy (1999) directed by Bruce Beresford and screenplay by David Weisberg and Douglas S. Cook. In this film, it takes the audience on a journey of a woman named Libby Parsons. She is married to Nick Parsons. Nick is having major money trouble. They both go out on a boat to not worry about that. Libby wakes up, covered in blood and does not know what’s going on at all. She eventually becomes a suspect, tried, and when convicted for the murder of her husband. Her friend, Angela, whom she let adopt her son, begins to visit her with her son, then eventually stops. Libby tracks down her phone number, she answers and finds out her husband faked his death. Libby gets revenge with murder and tracks him down when she gets out on parole. Now, paraphrasing the United States constitution, the fifth amendment protects U.S. citizens from being convicted a second time of the same crime they were convicted and proved guilty of the first time. In the film since Nick faked his death and Libby was covered in blood when she woke up, what blood is that? Is that fake blood? They never tested it in the film. That could’ve benefitted Libby. I would say this film accurately portrayed the legal field because they showcased the basic concept of double jeopardy under the fifth amendment, but of course they’re not going to go in full detail of legal proceedings. In the scene of the trial, they truly only took Libby standing in the boat, all bloody, holding a bloody knife. And the two million dollars in the life insurance policy definitely hammered the nail in her coffin for the prosecution and her defense attorney didn’t provide a substantial defense at all. I believe the prosecution didn’t really care about the murder of the person itself, just that the murder is publicized and they have to prosecute it. This film gave me a different view on the law because it is mindblowing to allow a person who has committed a crime, be acquitted or convicted and serve time, to commit the same crime when they committed.

Timekeeping by Coughlin!

Hello! I kept track of my time on Sunday, September 28, 2025, 7:45am-12:45pm. Here is what I did:

Arrived at my sister’s home in Queens to take care of her two daughters (my nieces) while she and her husband were out; settled in; received instructions for the day from my sister — 0.25

Watched Scooby Doo and other cartoons on the couch with my nieces — 1.0

Prepared breakfast for my nieces (1/2 bagel with butter each, plus watermelon); tried unsuccessfully to get them to stay at dining table to eat it — 0.50

Walked with nieces from their home to church, previewing vendors at street fair along the way – 0.50

Participated in church service; chatted with parishioners and pastor after service – 1.50

Walked through street fair; visited various vendors; enjoyed zeppoles with my nieces (their first time!); negotiated with 4 year old niece over how many items I would buy her (I told her I’d buy each of them one item; she unsuccessfully tried to convince me to buy her two items — the 2 year old apparently was happy to get just one item) — 1.0

Met up with my sister and her husband at street fair; provided briefing on my time with nieces; then relinquished my child care duties for the day — 0.25

My reaction: I expected that I would find this activity very unpleasant. I recall that when I worked at the law firm, and we had to keep meticulous track of how we spent our working time, I didn’t like the idea that I needed to engage in such a tedious task so the firm could make money. However, maybe because there was no “price tag” attached to it this time, I actually kind of enjoyed it. I found that I was more “mindful” of what I did and how I spent my time than I normally am, just going through my day without thinking about time. Maybe also because I was doing fun things!
