Graphic Design Intern for Print and Digital

The Brooklyn Book Festival seeks highly organized, creative and motivated interns interested in assisting with the visual and graphic communications of New York City’s largest literary festival. The Festival will take September 28 – October 5, 2020.

Interns assist with all aspects of the Festival’s visual messaging for the flagship Festival Day, where more than 90 panel discussions and readings and 300 national and international authors are presented; BKBF Children’s Day, which celebrates childhood literature and authors, citywide Bookend events,

Responsibilities: Interns will help create the Festival’s print and digital ads, e-newsletters, invitations, printed program, and Powerpoint presentations. In addition, interns will update website content and collaborate on social media campaigns. Proficiency with standard graphic design software such as inDesign, and Photoshop, WordPress, and Dropbox are required.

Qualifications: Strong candidates will have a strong visual sense that translates into clean and clear graphic design for posters and ads. Experience of submitting print ready files to printers is necessary. The ideal intern will have the ability to work collaboratively in a busy office, and work with good humor under tight deadlines. We look for interns who have the confidence to work independently, yet know when to ask for guidance. Organization and attention to detail are key.

Compensation: Interns receive a $1200 stipend for a 12 -week internship and an experience that allows them to build their portfolio and acquire professional resume enhancing experience. Following the internationship, successful candidates may be hired for short-term part-time work.

Internships operate on seasonal calendar and require 15 hours per week (ideally three 5-hour days)
