Week 3 Discussion

For the 2022 Super Bowl commercials, I chose the “Taco Bell Super Bowl commercial with Doja Cat”. The reason being is that Doja Cat is one of my top favorite music artists her comedic personality is fun to watch. To briefly explain what happens in the short clip. We are being with Doja dressed up with several other as circus clowns. They all display a body language of looking sad and unmoved as they sit at a dining table which is odd because clowns are known for performing comedic act to entertain the audience. Then we hear an iconic announcement which explains everything; “Attention students the ice cream machine is still broken”. At first, I thought this was a competitive clapback to McDonalds as their ice cream is know for never working, thus giving us as the viewers a reason why Taco Bell will never disappoint to an extent. But there is a keynote in those lines that change my view a bit or at least I purposely think those were their intentions. The announcement calls the clowns “students” which I think they did not want to get into legal trouble with McDonalds since they were clearly not at a McDonalds restaurant but at a clown school. Perhaps I’m just thinking too deep.

Moving on, after the announcement, Doja sees a circus hat on the table then picks it up. We don’t see what under the hat, but we see her facial expressions showing us she has an idea-smirk. Then her and her friends gets into a car and drives crazy, hitting stuff on the way. Then magically everyone costumes transform into a whole new punk rock wardrobe change. The next scene plays an import role where the other clown back at the school are seen looking down where Doja saw something under the hat. What they saws is revealed to be a Taco Bell’s famous ketchup packet. The commercials end with Doja and her friends enjoying their Taco Bell meals in the beautiful night.

The whole clips used one single piece of dialogue to help deliver the message. Which was the ice cream announcement. The use of the music playing, the CGI to transform the clothing and crazy car driving achieved the visual goal to connected and engaged the audience. While we watch an awesome story telling performance of Doja Cat, her friends, the other students that sold the product in 30 seconds.

I feel like that is something that all designer should do regardless, but sometimes the ideal target audience is different.

â—‰ Linguistic sign mentioned is a bit hard to understand. To sum it up, I think it means that the ad in this case was the Panzani means that not just the name itself, but the ingridents is “Italiancity.”

â—‰ Connoted in his ad is the suggestion of the Italian products, or products that is a stereotype? Example, using the bag as it implies how Italians would get their groceries in. Creates a meaning behind this. Coloring of the Italian’s flag, red background, white bag, and green on packaging as well as the tomatoes stems.

â—‰ Denoted literally the image of the items. Example ; pasta, canned salsa, mushroom, tomatoes.

â—‰ Advertisement standing for cultinary service, in the way the images consistent of food items.

Week 8 response/ assignment

I screen saved this magazine issue due to the events that are occurring recently that I find really upsetting This shows a picture of the Ukrainian flag and blood is dripping from the flag. This symbolized that Ukrainian is Endanger and thousands of people has died due to the Russian invasion. This also signifies the fall and collapse of of the country if Ukrainian doesn’t find a way to stop the war. The Ukrainian government is in a battle of there life.
I saw this on the Starbucks website and I thought it was pretty cool that they are advertising that Starbucks highers multiple people of color. It shows that Starbucks higher and acknowledge people from many different backgrounds.

Shayne Coley week 7 response/ assignment

In modern times media is portrayed as a convenance to our civilization. While media is seen as a convenient tool for the human population it is more then just a useful tool for mankind. It is also the extension and progression of what mankind is capable of doing . Marshall McLuhan first introduces the idea of media as extensions of man, he explains that in our modern world media is used to introduce roles which creates a sense of depth of involvement in there work. This in return creates a sense of new and innovative ways in evolving our usage of medium.
This extension of media can lead to many different ways to interpret the medium . For example when we look at ads or any think that involves send ing an important message in our works it can be used as a form of media , this media type is nicknamed content speech. In the article Understanding Media the extension of man by Marshall McLuhan explains that content speech” It is an actual process of thought, which is in itself non verbal.” For Instance an abstract painting could be used as a content speech since it represents a direct display of creative thinking processes as they might appear in computer designs. However our thought process mostly focus on the psychic and social consequences of the medium since they boost or increase our thought processes. The message for any medium is to change our outlook on in the affairs of humans.

There are a few ways that artist and designers can play a role in creating new messages for medium in general, such as creating a work environment that encourages new and fresh ideas. Also we must avoid shying away from topics that can be controversial. In our society we are expected to follow orders from our higher ups and execute the order. However this form of action can create a repetitive action or response. A repetitive nature can lead to many people to an apathetic attitude which creates a disinterest in there overall performance. When we are free to express ourselves we become more innovative since free space in courage humans to think harder. This attitude should be the way in how designers operate.

the ad that intrest me the most is the new dr strange movie. while i will admit that i kind of choose it due to my love of marvel i also choose it for other reasons. For example i like the way they used the music and how they shot the important scenes , it makes it feel grander then life itself. Also i like they way they used the fonts it feels like it could be a big movie event.
