Fiore and McLuhan co-creators of “The medium is the message” speaks about the fast pace environment in which humans are progressing. This being said when things are change we must change with it.

Speaking on the extent that media has on humanity and “the extensions of man” we can say that this is due to the fact that we as people consume so much media that we ourselves are an extensions of it. all of the content being shared online are from people who are voicing and sharing online are from their personal thoughts. This showcases the idea of extension of ones self but in a different medium. One that can have an impact on others behaviors.

With technology being an extension of oneself its easy to get wrapped up and disregard the hazards. Such things are being too reliant on technology and consuming its media can affect people and society. Seeing what is created online can have a negative affect on the what you perceive as the truth. Which can affect all who sees it, which has a domino affect to the overall society.

The overall job of a designer is to create visuals that convey a message, and in this adapting and fast pace industry designers are always discovering new ways in creating their message. whether its digitally or traditionally. Designers can can change the perception and reality of what people see. They can choose to voice their own opinions or ones of others.

Week 6 Response

In design there are many different counts of systematic techniques and approaches one can take to design. Josef Muller-Brockmann who wrote Grid and Design Philosophy spoke of the benefits and importance of utilizing a grid system while creating your design. Using the elements and specs of a grid such as the horizontal and vertical lines can create a symmetrical and neat layout.

Jan Tschichold writer of the new Typography uses a systematic approach of clarity within typography. As typography goes, its more than fonts, serifs and san serifs. its a way of communication. because typography is text, and text is used to communicate via visuals and reading. Its important that typography can be understood and has clarity in order to be effective. Tschichold also wants to have a balance of clarity and visual beauty. Creating a design that incorporates typography and a visually stunning design that doesn’t sacrifice one for the other.

Designing Programmes by Karl Gerstner goes in a different direction of systematic techniques and talks about the thinking process before the design or visuals are created. Such as Jan Tschichold and the emphasis on clarity Gerstner also speaks on the importance of designing as a solution is to have a clear vision and a non bias approach. Which means tackling a problem not from an emotional aspect which will create one solution. But thinking of a design solution that has an open ended solution. Creating a design that incorporates other ideas as to not be held down to one answer.

Simon Lei- Week 4 Response

According to the authors of the texts read, they believe that the issue and what was lacking in the art and education system was interest and passion. They have stated that art comes from the mind of people who love to explore and express themselves through the medium. Although many individuals attend schools of the arts, its what the individual can create and expand on from to make it their own.

The affect typography and photography have on their own creates different mediums within art. But joining the both to create a new form of art creates a different feeling. Having the visual aspect of a photograph and the combination of typography creates a unique structure which can bee seen in postcards and advertisement posters.

Language and communication plays a very important role in art. Art has its own form of expressing feelings and words visually. In order for a work of art to connect and portray a message they must be created through the language of art. Whether its through abstract, collages, portraits, etc. To truly enhance your experience through art, we must look for the message being told to us.

the field of art is always mutating, which en-turns creates various new forms of art. As artists its a fear to be left behind, but we must adapt or incorporate the changing industry to our style. Taking bits and piece of the elements of new forms of art and mixing it in with your style.

The academy should take into consideration that art is meant to be experienced through creation and not purely understood through traditional studying such as text books and lectures. Art is one of the few fields of work where people love to get their hands dirty and dive right into creating and experiencing the vast mediums of art.

Simon Lei – Week 4 Discussion

When creating a manifesto its important to understand that you’re creating a declaration thats balanced

Understanding the work – As we all know art has power, as designers its important for us to understand that what we create can have an impact. Its important that before we share our work, we must understand what we are presenting.

Confidence – No matter how you look at your work, be confident enough to present what you created. Art like water has no form, its form is what we make it out to be. Believe in what you formed.

Passion – In order for you to continue loving all aspects of art, we must wake up ready to create and not to dread doing what we love.

Connection – As designers its important for us to create connections, whether its for business purposes or engaging within the art community.

Week 3 reading response

The authors of these readings all have their own values as to what they believe would occur within the future and the affects it would have on art and design. Each unique view points that is interesting to read and fascinating in their own right. Overall the commonality these authors have is the belief that art will evolve in the future with the invention of new forms to present them.

In the future technology will change how people understand and dissect what they see. Many will be fascinated at the idea of how things came to be in terms of the process from idea to execution. Additionally these artist imagine a future where art can be more powerful than imaginable. As we head towards the future and creation of new technology, the three authors understand that they must tread lightly. Before we can proceed to use these form of technologies to create for the world, we must understand what the affects are and how we can use them.

These three artists envision the future of art with the inclusion of technology is to be immersive. After reading these writings ive noticed that the three artists included visually immersive words to describe what they believe is to come in the future. Filtering through these words I can only imagine that they imagine that art in the future will create worlds and visionaries. being able to experience what cannot be expressed through 2 dimensional works of art.

Discussion 3

As I was going through the Superbowl commercials of 2022 I found one to be the best at selling their product. The commercial for doritos and cheetos was very minimalistic in terms of dialogue, but you can understand what the concept behind the commercial. The animals in the wild all had a taste of these spicy chips and reacted to the heat by making noises. More and more of them tried them and turned into a symphony of acapella. From the body language you can assume that their heated up from the chips. Overall fun commercial and definitely made me want chips.

What is Design

Without though there is no right or wrong answer to what the definition to design maybe. Many people categorize in their own ways what is important and what is not. For me I see design as a visual creation made to serve curiosity and satisfactory.

The reason why my definition of design is such is due to the subjectivity of design. When you create for the public your work will always be seen within the two subjects, satisfactory and curiosity. The work that you create can have passion, meaning and when seen creates curiosity and buzz. On the other hand someone can see a design and think nothing of it and visually think its a master piece. But the sweet spot is the a combination of both. Design is meant to be visually stunning to the eye and serve a mental intent within viewers of “what does this all mean?” ,”how did they come up with this?”, and “why was this made?”

Both these points in my description of design is how I interpret what the mean of design is. The visual appeal and the thinking process of how and why the design was executed this way.
