Alex Veras- Lab: Week 12- Window Light Portraits

I think that the fine line between selfies and portraiture is found based on whether or not you’re the one taking a picture of yourself, or somebody else is. To take an actual professional portrait of yourself, you probably need a good amount of setup time, therefore I don’t think this was anything necessarily easy. Sitting in direct sunlight would have changed the mood of the picture a lot, but the distilled light helped create a much darker tone and set a different mood for the pictures. Had the window blind been completely pulled up, these pictures would have come out a-lot differently.

Alex Veras- Lab: Week 12- Wide Angle Distortion

I do think that in order to really use wide angle lens to create distortion, it’s best when it’s up close; that’s what allow specific portions of the body to get morphed in the first place. In the first picture using the wide angle lens I think the facial proportions seemed to narrow out more than they did with the regular shot lens and distance.

Alex Veras- Lab: Week 11- Food Photography Lighting

While making the pictures for this lab, the one thing that initially stood out to me was that once I took a picture using a/ the fill, the shadows casted by the cookies became less prevalent, but it seemed as if the overall color of the cookies was being drained out as the light was being reflected back at them. I had an issue with the white balance, but using the auto-adjust in Lightroom helped turn the blue-ish hued paper back into the white that it’s originally supposed to me.

Alex Veras- Lab: Week 11- The Background

For these two pictures, I decided to use these cookies that my family almost always has at the house, and even though you normally see them on a place like the left image being our dinner table, you rarely see them as you do on the right; on a cutting board. Whereas the cookies look placed within their element on the table, on the cutting board they stand out more due to the contrast of their color against the white-ness of the board itself and its scratches.
