This is taken with side lighting. I believe this came out to be a very beautiful picture . The light compliments the yellow of the flower nicely. It also looks the sea anemone from finding nemo.

yes, the shallow depth of field and the diagonal emphasis do make this a beautiful photo. Interesting that your chair photo also relies heavily on diagonal placement or an oblique angle for its visual interest.
