I hope you’re all staying safe. We received an email from City Tech confirming that classes will be held remotely today. Please use the Zoom link below to join tonight’s class at 6:00 PM.
a) From the list of designers whose names you chose, collect 20 images of their work and RESEARCH their careers. You can use the Internet, but NOT Wikipedia. Remember to note all sources of both images and text. You can add videos.
b) DESIGN YOUR PRESENTATION, using ONLY the GRID system. You can use Google Slides, PowerPoint, Keynote, ISSUU or a PDF booklet or presentation. Make a contact sheet of the images you find.
c) Write notes about the CAREER of your chosen designer–where they worked, their most important pieces, their contribution to the design field overall.
d) From this information, prepare a FIVE-MINUTE Oral Presentation with the images you made on the PDF.

Lab Time: Work on Developing your 5-minute Oral Presentation Due on Tuesday, April 21st, 2026
Lecture: Developing meaning to the image; conveying thoughts and emotions through images. Examples of small images and their impact on actions and ideas. Pictographic systems in world cultures.
Adrinka Symbols: A system of pictograms used throughout Africa in graphic and textile uses.Symbols used by the Incas in Peru. Fabrics, graphic communications, architecture, and geoglyphs.
Specifically: Critique of six color icons. Choose one that you would like to print.
Technical
Processing of icon images for screen and print. Assembly of reduced images in digital and analog formats; screen and paper printing explained. Resolution, template use.
Preparation
Finish the icons and put in the template from small to large; have digital and print-ready renditions of the three final icons.
Finalize the one icon and place it in the template below.
Homework Due: 2/19/2026
Add Icons to the three sizes using the template below. Send the print-ready images to print. (You can print at Remsen Graphics, FedEx, or a printing place near you). Upload Project 1 to Openlab before 6 pm.
This course explores creative visual thinking and its importance to communication design. You’ll experiment with image-making techniques and learn to use graphic elements to communicate concepts and ideas. The course emphasizes the integration of communication concepts, type and graphics and its relationship to multiple disciplines such as advertising, graphic design, web design, illustration, broadcast design production, and others. You’ll develop projects from thumbnails through final presentations.
