FIND OUT WHAT YOU CAN ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Who is the author? Are they recognized as experts on the topic? Or are they just claiming to be an expert on the topic? How do you know? Do they have a degree or expertise in the area?

Who is the publisher? Is the publisher well-known or reputable?

    READ THE INTRODUCTION / PREFACE

See if it’s really relevant to your topic. What are the key ideas highlighted? How is information organized?

    DETERMINE THE INTENDED AUDIENCE

Look at tone, style, vocabulary, information, assumptions, etc. Is the information too dense (scholarly) not dense enough (popular)?

What is fact or opinion or propaganda in the text?

What are the main ideas and arguments? Are the claims backed up with sound reasoning and evidence?

Do you agree with the ideas in the text based on your own knowledge?

Where do the hyperlinks in the piece take you? To other reliable sources or to ads or questionable sources?

Why did the author/ producer publish this?

Does the author appear to be selling something?

Is there an obvious agenda or bias? Sometimes it’s okay for there to be bias in a piece, but it is important to recognize it for what it is.

    IDENTIFY THE LANGUAGE USED

Is the language Objective or Emotional?

    How is the material presented?

Is the text well edited and free of errors?

Is the formatting well designed and professional looking?

    CROSS-CHECK THE INFORMATION

Can you find other credible sources that confirm the same information?

CHECK THE TIMELINESS OF THE SOURCE

How timely (recent) is the source? If it is not recent, does it matter? Why or why not?

    EXAMINE THE LIST OF REFERENCES

The intended audience are for writers. Because the writers need to make sure the source is reliable.

The purpose is to show the different type of rhetoric.

I think the ads on videos are the rhetoric I saw every day.

I tried to use videos to prove to my little brother that drinking too much Coke can affect his health.

When I discuss things with my family, I use other sources to justify my point.

The purpose of said text was to introduce and define the concept of rhetoric and its impact. Some examples of rhetoric that I see on a daily basis are from things like politicians who try to promote themselves and or their cause by the use of persuasion and offering to do something. One example of a rhetoric situation I’ve been in is trying to convince my parents to let me go on a trip, the main message being that I believe I should and deserve said ability.

some of the most examples of rhetoric that I see or hear in a daily basis is the News as well as social media.

My experience working in a phone store granted me skills in trading, selling as well as providing the service for them productively and attentively which helped me understand what the needs they need and how to make them buy a certain product and not the other. Dealing with such issues might seem as persuasion but it logically make sense because many costumers ended up depending on what I suggested/recommended them to choose.

The article’s intended audience was for writers because it emphasized the significance of double-checking sources before using them for research. The text’s goal was to illustrate the various forms of rhetoric and help readers understand what it represented. The advertisements are only a few instances of rhetoric that I encounter on a regular basis. I spent my spare time on tiktok or youtube, where a ton of advertisements, including ones for sales and other things, appear. In my science research, I once used rhetoric. Which form of paper towel is more useful and would be significantly more advantageous for you was the major focus of my research assignment. I created one, demonstrated it, and contrasted it with a number of paper towels in an attempt to back up my argument.
