Inspector at AECOM:

The Transportation Division of AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Inspector – Building for immediate employment in the New York, NY office. The Inspector will be responsible for field supervision of contractors’ activities to ensure works are constructed safely and in accordance with contract documents, submitted construction work plans, safe work plans and other relevant documents. This role is primarily based in the field. Shift work and weekend work required.

Responsibilities: The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

+ Observes/documents the quality of the contractor’s work to ensure conformance with contract documents

+ Performs general and task specific safety and environmental surveillance

+ Tracks field changes

+ Prepares work activities report for all shifts and prepares a shift report

+ Tracks quality control records as directed

+ Identifies potential coordination, quality and safety or environmental issues and raises appropriately

+ Assists in reviews of contract and shop drawings as requested

Minimum Requirements

+ High school diploma

+ 5+ years of experience in field inspection and quality assurance with emphasis on building trades and systems

+ Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)

+ OSHA 10 hour certification

Project Estimator

Primary Purpose

The Project Estimator assists in the performance of the construction cost estimating function, including reviewing and analyzing schematic, design development and construction document submissions prepared by design consultants to verify estimated costs for small-scale projects, and assisting in the performance of these tasks for large-scale projects. Project types vary from small, single trade to highly complex, and include new construction as well as rehabilitation and site work. Highly complex projects have a high degree of variables including, but not limited to, budget, schedule, number of contracts, management approach, delivery method, Wicks Law, level of service, phasing, customer orientation, staffing, labor issues (including Project Labor Agreements), location and site access, design and/or construction complexity, environmental issues and other non-traditional projects. The Project Estimator provides support to the estimating function as well as the design and construction phase managers in cost estimating aspects of projects.

Essential Functions

Review schematic, design development, and construction document submissions prepared by design consultants for completeness and current market value, and verify estimated costs. This includes reviewing quantity take-offs and pricing for accuracy, and reconciliation of estimates.

Assist in the preparation of estimates for in-house and third-party designs on small projects.

Perform quantity takeoffs from drawings, scopes of work, etc.

Communicate findings and recommendations regarding prepared/reviewed cost estimates verbally and in writing.

Help identify scope elements and scheduling needs which may have significant budgetary impacts.

Meet with staff, consultants, and client agency representatives to discuss and resolve cost estimating issues.

Support bid tabulation analysis and post-bid investigations.

Review cost proposals associated with change orders.

Assist in the development of cost recommendations and value engineering.

Assist in the development of cost estimating forms and procedures.

Assist in the documentation of cost trends and assist in the performance of project cost analyses.

Assist with cost estimating training for Construction Division staff.

Assist with cost estimate specifications and templates as needed.

Attend site visits and meetings as necessary to understand scopes of work and estimates.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

Assist in the development, documentation and implementation of procedures.

Assist with the assessment/development and implementation of internal controls, and participate in the review and testing of same.

May train and evaluate employees.

Undertake special assignments as directed.

Must maintain regular attendance in accordance with DASNY attendance and leave policies.

Must adhere to the NYS Information Security Policy Standards established and issued by the Office of Information Technology Services. (Standards can be found on the Intranet).

Supervision

Supervision of employees may be required.

Physical/Mental/Visual Demands

Weekly travel may be required, depending on assignment, using public transportation, DASNY vehicle, rental vehicle or personal vehicle. This travel may include overnight stays at public accommodations and related establishments. Requires exposure to weather and temperature extremes, loud noises, heights (climbing ladders, scaffolding, etc.) and work safety hazards (chemicals, fumes, etc.). Requires physical mobility (movement from place to place), strength, dexterity and coordination. Requires endurance, concentration (prolonged physical activity with limited opportunity to rest) and complex and time-pressured decision-making. Requires the ability to see, hear, smell, touch and distinguish colors. Must be available to occasionally work a modified work schedule or extended workday hours.

May be standard office environment or a construction site. Requires the use of one or more of the following: PC, telephone, fax machine, printer, copier, scanner, electronic stapler/hole punch/date stamp, shredder.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree plus three years experience performing estimating for construction projects.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management or a construction related field strongly preferred, plus three or more years experience estimating for construction projects, including expertise in line item estimating, take offs, and cost estimating methodologies. Experience in all disciplines of construction cost estimating, including experience with various project delivery methods such as design-bid-build, CM at risk, design-build, and job order contracting in both the public and private markets. Working knowledge of current market conditions including pricing conventions and trends. Experience working with estimating software such as Classic On-Screen Takeoff, Timberline or RSMeans and knowledge of Primavera Contract Manager and P6 project management systems.

The Assistant Project Manager will help drive the start-up, construction and close-out process for our own commercial construction projects. At SNL, we are owner-developers building multi-story projects in and around the NYC boroughs. The candidate will work with project management to implement the pre-construction process throughout the construction and close-out phases, diligently managing ICAP requirements, due diligence activities as well as the management of permit expediting on multiple projects. The Inspector will represent DeSimone at project sites, performing rebar and concrete placement inspections and ensuring compliance with local laws and building codes on mid to high rise buildings. The position also involves filing electronic inspection reports and submitting project photographs. Requirements

  • Associate degree in Civil Engineering, Construction or related field
  • Minimum three years of special inspection experience in reinforcement layout and concrete placement
  • Must be ACI Field Testing Technician Grade 1 and ACI or ICC Concrete Construction Special Inspector certified
  • Ability to produce inspection reports and work closely with the Project Manager to ensure timeliness of project completion
  • Good verbal and written communication skills, positive demeanor and proactive team player

Preferred

  • Structural Steel inspection certification and experience
  • 4-year engineering degree

Physical Requirements

  • Work on platforms and at elevations up to 70 stories high
  • Take hoist (outside elevator) up the outside the building
  • Ascend/descent ladders and stairs, bend and maintain balance while walking on rebars

Moore Associates, LLC – a small structural engineering company located near Lincoln Center. We primarily do renovation work here in the city, which includes drawing plans for apartment, laundry, and façade renovations, filing jobs with the Building Department, and tracking the status of construction once it is underway.

Currently, we are looking for a part-time project coordinator and administrative assistant. We offer incredibly flexible hours and competitive compensation. This is an ideal position for someone who already has work and is looking for an additional commitment of 15-20 hours a week.

We do not necessarily need someone with a background in this, we just someone who would be comfortable learning. That said, anyone with experience in construction, architecture, engineering, or expediting would be preferred.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Organizing and tracking the status of paperwork leading up to filing with the NYC Building Department, including some expediting work to file the jobs with the Building Department online
  • Keeping track of the status of work once it is underway and making sure jobs get signed off when complete
  • Administrative duties including sending out fed ex packages, outgoing mail, phone messages, ordering office supplies, etc
  • Invoicing and timesheets
  • Additional work could include helping with measuring onsite, doing site inspections, and helping to clear violations. We also may have the right candidate learn to file jobs with the Building Department, as they grow with the role.
