CMCE Career Week – 10/21 MTA East Side Access Site Visit

Join the Moles Students Day on Friday, Oct. 21st for the MTA’s ESA-at Grand Central Terminal technical presentation and tour! As you may be aware, when complete, this state-of-the-art concourse and terminal will enable direct access on the east side of Manhattan for riders on all 11 branches of the LIRR!

Friday, October 21st | Time: 8:00 am – 2:00 pm | Location: Meet at CLUB 101, 101 Park Ave., between East 40th and 41st Streets, just south of Grand Central Terminal

Schedule of Events:  8:00am – Please arrive on time for Registration/Continental Breakfast at CLUB 101. 8:30am – Introductions and project overview by the MTA and Tutor Perini; Safety presentation 9:45 am – Tour groups will assemble and take tour 1:30pm (the latest)– Groups will return to Club 101 and convene for Lunch. 2:00pm – End of Moles Students Day

PPE, including hard hats and vests, will be provided and distributed. Work/hiking boots are required and attendees should bring ID.

Student News – Calvin Walters, Jr. Wins CMAA Scholarship

Calvin O. Walters, Jr., Construction Engineering Technology BTech expected class of 2025, is the recipient of a $7,500 scholarship from the Construction Management Association of America (CMAA) Metro NY/NJ Chapter! The scholarship was presented at a ceremony at the Yale Club in June. Calvin is the president of City Tech’s student chapter of CMAA. He is also a three-time participant in City Tech’s Emerging Scholars Program as an undergraduate researcher investigating the Living Breakwaters storm resilience project in Staten Island, NY. Calvin is currently employed by his father at CWJ Iron Works, where he works with high-pressure welding and fabrication, structural steel beams, hand rails, and high-pressure pipe welding.

Freshman Research Opportunity – Living Breakwaters with CRSP

Prof. Sowder is seeking one freshman interested in joining a paid undergraduate research project on our team studying the Living Breakwaters in Staten Island.

CRSP info: The CUNY Research Scholars Program provides a $5000 stipend ($1000 in Fall, $1000 in Spring and $3000 in Summer) for full-time students enrolled in Associate program or in Bachelor program with less than 50 credits for conducting research with a faculty member. If there is a student that you would like to work with, please provide them with this information and encourage them to apply. This is an opportunity to advance your scholarship while providing valuable experience to a promising student. First year first-time City Tech students are especially encouraged to apply. The program is supported by CUNY Research Office and/or NSF Louis Stokes Alliances for Minority Participation (LSAMP) program. Last year freshmen researchers applying for this program will be part of LSAMP program as well.

Brooklyn Navy Yard – Fall 2022 Internships

Apply to the BKNY 10-week fall internship beginning on Monday, September 26th and ending on Friday, December 2nd. Part-time, 15-20 hours per week work schedule (160 paid hours for the internship). All interns are paid $15/hour by BNYDC.

Eligibility:
Interns are selected based on their demonstration of strong communication skills, work ethic, and track record of commitment and achievement. Applicants must be:

• A Brooklyn resident or attend a Brooklyn-based college
• A first-time or once returning participant in the BNY Internship Program
• A current college attending student
