Organizing Faculty & Staff at City Tech, CUNY
Local papers and news outlets have been covering the uproar over Mayor Eric Adams cuts to CUNY budgets…except the New York Times. The last NYT mention of university cuts in the city budget was a news article in early April, before the slew of rallies fighting cuts to CUNY. Since then, the NYT has remained silent on the Mayor’s cuts to CUNY education. Last week, however, the NYT couldn’t ignore Mayor Adams cold reception at the commencement for the 2023 graduates of the CUNY School of Law. CUNY’s Law School is the most diverse law school in the nation with the primary objective of serving the public interest (check out their mission statement). Looking forward to seeing the commencement posted so that we can all share in the celebration of these brave graduates.

JOIN THE RALLY THURSDAY May 11, 12:30 pm at the Tweed Courthouse (52 Chambers St), City Hall Park
CUNY students, faculty, staff, PSC members, and allies will rally on the steps of Tweet Courthouse (52 Chambers St) near City Hall before City Council meets on Thursday, May 11.
Mayor Eric Adams, a City Tech alum, has eliminated hundreds of unfilled faculty and staff positions at CUNY community colleges through his “Program to Eliminate the Gap” cuts. CUNY has been cut by more than $60 million in Fiscal Years 2023 and 2024. The City Council has been standing up to the mayor, demanding budget restorations and a $35 million increase to hire a new corps of full-time academic advisors.
Let the PSC know you’ll be there! https://psc-cuny.org/calendar/city-budget-rally/
The CUNY Board of Trustees are holding a hearing at LaGuardia Community College on Monday May 8th, 4:30 pm.

“We’re old, we’re bold, get used to it!” — Brian Lehrer, WNYC radio host
Th3 April 1st deadline looms for Mayor Adams to decide whether Medicare remains an option for CUNY retirees as he tries to move the city work force into a Medicare Advantage plan. According to the Daily News, he plans to cut Medicare out of our health care. TAKE ACTION! SIGN the Union’s PETITION to save the Medicare option.
Listen to a segment on the Friday 3/24 episode of the Brian Lehrer show about the proposed changes and how it will change the quality of health care coverage for New York City workers: “NYC Retirees Speak Out Against Health Plan Changes.”
If you’re wondering whether Medicare Advantage is that much worse, check out a podcast on how Medicare Advantage costs more for the Federal government than traditional Medicare. Listen to Kaiser Health News’ “The policy, and politics, of Medicare Advantage.“
Rally outside CUNY Central the morning before our contract expires. We’ll be taking our demands to CUNY, literally putting them on tables outside of the bosses’ door and confronting them with our vision for a Fair Contract for #APeoplesCUNY.
