While there are still mixed opinions regarding if photography is a form of art or not to this day, I still see it as art myself. In this modern era of photography, it’s taking a new turn in society by taking something as simple as a pencil into something that will grab more attention to followers on social media. Photography is a way to save our memories and look back on the photos you’ve taken in the past. Nowadays selfies have become a new way for us to express ourselves. Some selfies that might not come off great can be turned into something better when tiny parts of the photo are changed such as the color, sharpness, and fade. Photographs are also used to admire the beauty in something or somebody such as gazing into one’s eyes. Cindy Sherman is a perfect example of what photography has become to many people by showing us how we can manipulate so many things in a simple picture and make a whole new creation. At first glance, when you look at Sherman’s pictures uploaded on Instagram you think it’s weird or funny of how she exaggerates a portion of her face, but once you take a closer look at her photos you can see what Sherman wants you to focus on the most. Sherman want people to admire her creation, not just look at her photos. Thanks to her, I see photography in a whole new light and more than just photos of a place, person or thing.
