I also entered grades into teacher’s grade book. I graded all lesson summary questions and turned in grades with comments on google classroom.

Students begin to sketch their 3 outfits on tracing paper using fashion croquis. I help students as needed with print scaling and outfit choices.

Intermediate & Advanced Fashion

Students continued working on their “Vibrant Bird” design renderings. I graded my lesson post-assessment. Students who hadn’t turned in their work from the lesson because they were absent, I sat with one on one to demo the fabric renderings. Once they were completed they turned it in to me to be graded.

Students continue working on their motif textile design. Teacher introduces the many ways to apply prints to garments to help them when they begin to add their pattern designs to croquis. Teacher did a lecture presentation with a do now at the beginning of the class.

Students continued working on their “Vibrant Bird” project croquis. Once sketching was complete and all corrections were made, students began adding skin color to their sketches. I prepped for the lesson I will be teaching tomorrow. I looked for some fabric swatches and also cut up some pieces of Tulle for them to use in the lesson tomorrow.

Tuesday-3/5/19

Intermediate & Advanced Fashion

Today I went around the room helping any students who still needed help with their sketches before they start rendering. The teacher and I reviewed a fabrics homework assignment she asked me to come up with for the class. We also discussed fabric rendering lesson plan for Thursday.

Beginner Fashion

Students continue to ask for approval and begin tracing their textile motifs. The teacher reviews with the class the different patterning techniques and guidelines. The teacher and I discuss possibly doing the fabric properties lesson with this class as well sometime this week or the following week. I walk around the room helping students.

Friday-3/1/19

Intermediate & Advanced Fashion

Today I had the opportunity to lead the class. The class teacher was absent and sent me a message that morning before school started. She let me know she wasn’t going to be in and that she wanted me to lead the class. She wanted me to quickly review with the class the lesson vocabulary from the day before. She also told me to provide them with a deadline for when their croquis should be transferred to tracing paper and ready for rendering. At the beginning of the period, I allowed the sub to take the attendance. I then reviewed with the class the previous lesson. I let them know what they should be working on for the remainder of the period. I reminded them that their croquis should be on marker paper by Tuesday so if they needed to take paper with them home to finish they should. I also asked if anyone still needed to meet with me to resolve any issues in their sketch to let me know so I can approve them before tracing it on to marker paper. I walk around helping students and monitoring what they are working on. When the period was close to being over, I reminded them of their assignment and asked them to put away whatever materials they had been using.

Beginner Fashion

Students complete their 3 motif designs and move on to tracing it 4 times on 4 small cut out squares of tracing paper. The teacher and I check each student’s selection and they begin to trace the motif once they get our approval.  We check for symmetry on all sides of the motif as well as for an even pattern repeat.

Welcome!

Hi Everyone!! I’m very happy to have the opportunity to use this platform to connect with my fellow classmates. Teaching is a fairly new area for me so I am glad we are able to share our experiences, thoughts, and advice. I am looking forward to learning from you all and I hope my insights can help you as well! : )

Thursday-2/28/19

Intermediate & Advanced Fashion

Today was my observation lesson! The lesson went much better than I had expected. I was very nervous and I think everyone could tell by my voice because it kept cracking all the time.  However, overall I think it went very well. The class participated tremendously. My time management worked out perfectly. There was just enough time for everything in my lesson plan and I still had time to summarize and give them their homework assignment. I also could tell the students had really learned something from my lesson by the way they responded to activities and questions. At the end of my lesson, I met with Professor Scandura and he recommended a couple of things but, at the end gave me an A- for my observation grade. Some things I know I can improve on or do better for next time is:

  • Send in my lesson plan at least 3 days in advance to Prof. Scandura. (This is what gave me an A- instead of an A.)
  • Be sure to include/indicate a ELL adjustment or accomodation in my lesson plan or say “none needed”.
  • Maybe have students come up closer to mannequin instead of having them sitting at their desks. This will get them to interact more in the demo part of the lesson.
  • While the students were working on the Do Now independently, the teacher (my mentor) advised me to tell the students they can share their ideas with the person next to them. The room was very quiet at first but, as soon as I made that announcement, the class immediately began having discussions. We both looked at each other and smiled. It’s almost as if they were waiting to get that okay so they share with each other.
