    1. Course Coordinator/Curriculum Redesign
    2. As the course coordinator for the construction drawing courses CMCE 1110, CMCE 1211, and CMCE 2410, I am responsible for redesigning the CAD sequence curriculum. This involves updating the course content to align with modern industrial applications and increasing course credits to 3 from 2. To achieve this, I am working with the ad hoc committee reviewing the curriculum change proposal. For discussion, the final proposal was presented to the department in Fall 2025

Course Coordinator/Curriculum Redesign

I proposed a curriculum revamp as a teaching and coordinator for CMCE 1114 (Materials & Methods of Construction I). The goal is to comprehensively understand the construction process, emphasizing the materials used and their environmental impact. To achieve this, hands-on exercises will be provided, utilizing the woodshop facilities in coordination with BIM systems. The pilot course was rolled out in the Fall of 2024 to efficiently reduce the cost of material involved in the previous wood model by simplifying the wood model-making exercise, enlarging the scale, and partially developing an area of the building rather than the entire building model. A BIM 3D model will be available for the students to help with the visualization and to understand all the parts of the constructive members involved in the building.


New Course — Advanced Building Information Modeling (Summer 2026)

In Summer 2026, I am teaching CMCE 4473 — Advanced Building Information Modeling for the first time. This upper-level course extends the BIM workflows introduced in CMCE 1211 and CMCE 2410 into professional-grade practice, covering model coordination, clash detection, quantity takeoffs, and construction-phase documentation. CMCE 4473 represents the department’s first offering at this level and is a direct extension of my work developing the construction drawing sequence. The course is also conceptually connected to the CMCE AI Studio grant initiative, exploring how AI co-pilots can be responsibly integrated into advanced BIM workflows.

  2. I proposed an OER Publication to the Citytech Library as part of the OER Fellowship program. The project has been accepted and will be completed in June 2025. The publication “Building Construction Documentation—From Hand Drafting to BIM” is designed to support the curriculum change included in the CMCE Construction Drawings Courses.

  3. Proposal for a New Material Library
  4. Objective: To enrich the educational experience of students enrolled in the Materials and Methods of Construction I & II courses, I am proposing the establishment of a comprehensive Material Library. This library will serve as a hands-on learning resource, providing students with direct access to various construction materials and small-scale assemblies. Proposal: In order to achieve this goal, we will collaborate with industry vendors and manufacturers to procure samples of various construction materials, including but not limited to, concrete, steel, wood, polymers, composites, and innovative green materials. Additionally, we aim to acquire or build in-house small, typical construction assemblies such as wall sections, beam-column connections, and foundation systems. These materials and assemblies will be displayed in an organized, accessible manner, allowing students to physically interact with them and better understand their properties, applications, and installation techniques.
  5. Enhancement and Strategy: Comprehensive DisplayOrganize the library by material type and construction application.
    Include detailed labels and information sheets for each material and assembly, covering properties, uses, benefits, limitations, and sustainability aspects.
    Incorporate digital resources such as QR codes that link to videos, technical datasheets, and case studies for an interactive learning experience.

Establishing a Material Library at the New York College of Technology will significantly enhance the learning experience for our students by bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application. Through strategic vendor partnerships and a well-curated collection of materials and assemblies, our students will gain invaluable hands-on experience and a deeper understanding of the materials and methods that shape the built environment. This initiative will improve the quality of our courses and better prepare our students for successful careers in construction management and civil engineering.

The Material Library will be located in room V-405, and its exact location is part of the Master Plan Initiative, which I am proposing for the Department.

 


  1. 3D Visualization Pilot Project
  2. Virtual Reality Construction Site Walkthrough Proposal

I am excited to propose the creation of a state-of-the-art virtual reality construction site, leveraging the advanced capabilities of the College of Staten Island’s computer systems. This initiative aims to provide students with a fully immersive experience, allowing them to visualize and engage with various construction techniques in a realistic virtual environment.

The virtual reality platform will feature a meticulously designed simulation of a building under construction, showcasing different phases of the building process—from initial groundwork to the completion of structural elements. Students will be able to interact with various tools and materials, enhancing their understanding of construction methodologies and best practices. Additionally, the immersive experience will help them grasp complex concepts such as spatial relationships, safety protocols, and project management in a hands-on manner.

The original proposal is currently in the developmental stages, and I am committed to refining it further based on feedback and insights from faculty and industry professionals. The first draft of the proposal is set to be presented to the department by the end of this calendar year. I am eager to gather input to strengthen the project and maximize its impact on our students’ learning experiences.

At the department level, I’ve been deeply involved in initiatives to enhance students’ learning experiences.

Construction Specification Institute CSI / Construction Documents Technology (CDT) certification

I proposed, researched, and coordinated efforts to encourage students to take the CSI Construction Documents Technology (CDT) certification. This initiative will provide students with the opportunity to obtain valuable industry credentials, enhancing their employability and professional development.

Autodesk Certification for Architecture, Engineering, and Construction.

I propose that students get the certification in Construction Drawing I and gradually progress to include all required entry-level Autodesk Certified User programs, particularly Autodesk AutoCAD and Autodesk Revit. This initiative will benefit their professional careers and assist them throughout the training involved in various courses within our department.


NYPL LinkedIn Learning Tutorials

I am actively implementing a self-training initiative for the students in the 3 Construction Drawings courses. I am providing them with information on where to obtain tutorials, including free access to the New York Public Library/LinkedIn Learning, which provides a vast list of software tutorials, including the Autodesk tools we use in class.


Interactive Display

I have played a key role in creating and updating the interactive displays in the department corridor. These displays provide students with valuable information and resources to support their academic journey. Among the topics we cover are Advisement Frequently Asked Questions, Academic Support and Guidance, as well as presentations of faculty, staff, and available resources.


Department Social Media Presence (Fall 2024)

I’ve been tasked with creating a social media presence on my own proposal to have the department communicate with the students on their own terms. Establishing a robust social media presence for Citytech’s Construction Management and Civil Engineering Department is crucial for enhancing communication and engagement with students. Students increasingly rely on social media platforms for information and interaction in today’s digital age. By leveraging these platforms, the department can effectively disseminate important updates, share academic and professional opportunities, and foster a sense of community. An active social media strategy will keep students informed about departmental activities and encourage their participation in events, promote networking opportunities, and highlight student achievements. The CMCE Department can create a dynamic and engaging social media presence that resonates with students, fosters community, and enhances the overall educational experience.

Honors Scholars Program Mentorship. (Spring 2023)

I had the privilege of mentoring one of my students, Aqil Ahmed, who wanted to create a set of drawings and a 3D model of his family’s house. He diligently followed all the technical steps to collect data and successfully utilized BIM systems to create the current condition of the house, including a set of drawings and 3D views of the model. For that, I was awarded recognition.


Teaching outside the CUNY system.

Since 2015, I have been an instructor at the New York School of Interior Design (NYSID) faculty. I am involved in teaching for their Interior Design Master Program, and I’ve found that some of the courses I teach there share common themes with the ones I teach at Citytech. This alignment has provided me with a valuable opportunity to compare student outcomes, engagement levels, and learning processes between the two institutions. This teaching experience has been instrumental in allowing me to experiment with and enhance various teaching tools and techniques in both academic environments.
