Improvement Activities

Continuous professional development has been a consistent part of my practice since joining City Tech full-time in 2022. The activities below reflect my ongoing effort to strengthen my teaching through formal certification, conference participation, and engagement with emerging pedagogical and technological practice. They are organized from most recent to earliest.

2026

eCornell — Generative AI for Productivity Certificate (enrolled April 14, 2026 — in progress) Certificate program CTECHC12, offered through Cornell University’s online platform. This enrollment is directly tied to the CMCE AI Studio initiative funded through the CUNY AI Innovation Fund grant (January 2026). The certificate covers applications of generative AI in professional and instructional contexts, and the learning will directly inform the development of AI co-pilots for construction documentation, CAD, and BIM workflows that I deploy in my courses.

City Tech AI Symposium: Building the Future of AI — Together (April 17, 2026) Co-organizer. Working through the Gen Ed Committee, I was part of the team that planned and executed City Tech’s 2026 AI Symposium. The event brought together faculty, students, and industry partners to explore AI’s role in higher education and the built environment professions. My involvement spanned programming, coordination, and presentation facilitation.

2025

Writing Intensive (WI) Certification (earned Spring 2025) Completed a three-workshop sequence through the Writing Across the Curriculum (WAC) program to earn the City Tech Writing Intensive teaching certification. Workshops included:

  • February 27, 2025 — Designing Your WI Syllabus
  • March 20, 2025 — Effective Assignment Design
  • April 10, 2025 — Minimal Marking / Effective Grading

The certification has informed a proposal to designate CMCE 2410 — Construction Drawings III as a Writing Intensive course, targeting Fall 2027.

AI Roundtable Discussion Series: Empowering Faculty with AI (May 16, 2025) Participated in a Faculty Commons roundtable exploring practical applications of AI tools in the classroom. The discussion directly supported ongoing development of course-specific AI agents deployed across my CMCE courses.

City Tech AI Symposium: Building the Future of AI — Together (May 8, 2025) Attended the 2025 AI Symposium as part of the AI Task Force and Gen Ed Committee engagement, building the collaboration that led to co-organizing the 2026 edition.

First Year Learning Communities — Professional Development Workshops (Spring 2025) Completed two professional development workshops in preparation for my third consecutive year as FYLC Liaison:

  • April 4, 2025 — Workshop #1
  • May 2, 2025 — Workshop #2

PARSE Workshop: What, Where & How (March 31, 2025) Attended the Faculty Commons ePARSE preparation workshop in advance of the Year 4 annual evaluation submission.

24th Annual CUNY IT Conference (December 5–6, 2024) Attended the annual conference, including the session AI-Powered STEM Tutoring at Hostos: Using System Prompts to Enhance Learning, which informed the design of my CMCE course-specific AI advisement agents.

2024

NSF Office of International Science and Engineering (OISE) Grant Programs — Webinar (May 8, 2024) Attended to explore external grant opportunities in international science and engineering education, in support of broader grant development efforts.

Teaching Matters — Generative AI Series, Session 6 (April 12, 2024) Workshop: Equipping Students with Humanistic Skills in the Age of AI: From Classrooms to Careers and Beyond. Applied insights from this session to develop critical AI literacy components in my construction drawing courses.

PARSE Workshop: What to Include and Where (March 29, 2024) Faculty Commons workshop on ePARSE documentation and annual evaluation preparation.

C-IDEA Conference — CUNY Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Access (March 13–14, 2024) Attended two sessions at the Graduate Center:

  • Why Are We Still Latinos/as and Not Latinx? Reflections on the Use of Gender-neutral Terms at CUNY and Beyond
  • Humanizing the Non-Humanities Classroom

Both sessions informed how I approach inclusive instruction in a technical field, particularly with the bilingual student population I work with at Open House events and advisement sessions.

2023

New Lecturer Initiative — Spring Conference (April 21, 2023) Attended multiple workshops at John Jay College as part of the CUNY New Lecturer Initiative, covering faculty evaluation processes, classroom observation, and institutional navigation for new full-time lecturers.

ChatGPT — Views from the Classroom (April 19, 2023) Faculty Commons discussion on ChatGPT’s emerging role in higher education. This was among the first structured conversations I participated in on AI in pedagogy, and it contributed to the early development of my AI tools strategy.

ePARSE Cumulative Self-Evaluation Faculty Workshop (April 4, 2023)

PARSE Workshop: What to Include and Where (March 24, 2023) Faculty Commons workshop on ePARSE documentation.
