My teaching goals for the next phase of my career at City Tech are grounded in three interconnected priorities: expanding the curriculum into advanced digital practice, embedding writing as a professional discipline within the construction drawing sequence, and deepening the integration of artificial intelligence as both a pedagogical tool and a subject of study.
Expanding into advanced BIM practice. In Summer 2026, I am teaching CMCE 4473 — Advanced Building Information Modeling — for the first time. This upper-level course extends the BIM skills introduced in CMCE 1211 and CMCE 2410 into professional-level workflows, including coordination, clash detection, and model-based documentation. My goal is to develop this course into a capstone experience that connects directly to industry practice, and to explore whether it can serve as an entry point for undergraduate research projects tied to the CMCE AI Studio grant initiative.
Establishing CMCE 2410 as a Writing Intensive course. Having earned my Writing Intensive certification in Spring 2025, I am proposing CMCE 2410 — Construction Drawings III — as a WI course, targeting Fall 2027. As the final course in the construction drawing sequence, CMCE 2410 is the natural place to formalize professional writing skills: specifications, project narratives, and technical reports are all part of standard construction documentation practice. The WI designation would reinforce that connection and strengthen students’ readiness for the communication demands of the profession.
Deepening AI literacy in construction education. Through the CUNY AI Innovation Fund grant awarded in January 2026, I am developing the CMCE AI Studio — a set of responsible AI co-pilots/AI Agents for construction documentation, CAD, and BIM workflows. My goal is to integrate these tools into the classroom not just as productivity aids but as subjects of critical inquiry: how are AI tools reshaping construction documentation? What are the ethical implications of AI-assisted design? I am pursuing these questions through an eCornell certificate in Generative AI for Productivity, and plan to use that knowledge to refine the AI agents already deployed in my courses.
Looking further ahead, I intend to continue my professional engagement with the construction industry through 2C Design Studio and to bring new project-based case studies into the classroom. I am also exploring opportunities to present the CMCE AI Studio work at a professional conference or CUNY symposium, translating our classroom practice into a broader scholarly conversation.
