“Be the change that you wish to see in the world.”
                   -Mahatma Gandhi

This has always been one of my favorite personal quotes. Another beautiful one is “Become your dream” quoted by NYC artist De La Vega. I firmly believe that each one of us possesses the power to change and impact our surroundings. By becoming a culinary educator, I feel that I can change my surroundings and if it is God’s will, I can change the world.
I choose to study Hospitality Management because for as long as I can remember, I have always been a genuinely loving and giving person. Yes that sounds too good to be true, but I can assure you that I have been in plenty of fights and arguments lush with profanity and sometimes fists about me being so giving… I go hard about being true to myself… Being that I am studying culinary arts within my Hospitality Management discipline, and being that I love EVERYTHING relating to food, I have choose to study at City Tech because it offers the most when it comes to getting an education.
I choose to study Career Technology & Teacher Education because I love teaching. Since I was 16 years old, I have taught several things all ranging from catechism, physical education, lifeguarding, CPR, and swimming.
As mentioned before, I feel that I can change my surroundings. I love people and one thing that I wish for us is that we start to understand how to give to ourselves and others through food. Food is such a wonderful thing to give someone; food is the universal language of love. I’m not just talking about any old food slopped down and thrown together- I am talking about food lovingly, respectfully, and sustainably and prepared. Everything from the animals to the seeds need to be treated with so much respect and appreciation so that we can change from the inside out and get healthy.
With the global population slated to reach 9 billion within the next 30 years (National Geographic), I want to change the way people eat today so that we may all have enough to eat. Also, why is it that of “roughly one third of the food produced in the world for human consumption every year — approximately 1.3 billion tons — gets lost or wasted”? (United Nations) And not for nothing, why are people still going hungry? But yes, I feel that I have something to offer the field.
Knowing a little bit about rooftop gardening, I feel that I can offer some knowledge on growing food from the ground up. Knowing how to cook, I feel that I can offer some knowledge on how to cook on a budget. Knowing some real world perspectives and possessing some research skills, I feel that I can offer a realistic perspective to issues relating to food security and issues surrounding it. And finally, knowing how to be personable with people, I feel that I can offer an approachability to those seeking advice.
It is no joke, I truly believe that I can change this world with my wish- Gandhi wasn’t playing when he said that. By becoming a culinary educator, I can change the world.

Computers in Education

Hello & welcome.

Because I am working towards becoming a culinary educator, I am taking a course called “Computers in Education.” There, I am learning how to use technology to my advantage so that  my level of expertise can be utilized to its maximum via blog posts, wikis, podcasts, video blogs, social media outlets, and the like.

I have committed to posting videos on cooking methods as my term project. This will be a challenge as I have never produced a video of myself teaching; you could say I will need to get over being camera shy in order to get this project done. But like I always say, “what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.”
