About Me

Carl Cabrall

Making a deliberate effort to become an artistic person has been a cornerstone of my life. I haven’t learned all that there is to learn (to me this is exciting) which leaves more room to learn new ways to create. The Communication Design Program at New York City College of Technology piqued my interest when I discovered it. As a hobby, over the years I’ve created using a variety of mediums such as watercolors, acrylics, oils, pastels, charcoal, several types of digital art using the Adobe Suite as well as video creation and editing on freelance jobs. I’m a musician, vocalist and in the past have written and acted. Being a skilled designer of digital products of all varieties and applications is something I aspire to achieve. My desire to be teachable and successful, has awoken a greater seeking of insight into why people perceive the world and each other in the way that they do. Equally important to me is progressively growing in an understanding of why people see things differently. How we communicate these differences through art, digital signs, and symbols, as well as through motion graphics and video provides an opportunity for someone like me to create art that unifies and uplifts.

I intentionally make myself a student of life. Travelling domestically and internationally is a big part of my life. Some of my favorite authors are Mya Angelou, J.A. Allen, Wallace Wattles and Robert Kiosaki. I’m always looking for that moment in my day that is teaching me how to become a better and more creative ‘me.’ I write down ideas whenever they come, regardless to the time or my physical location. My belief is that creative success is not a random endeavor – it is very intentional. Time spent in practicing my craft is important. The world will not be what it is without creative people e.g., architects, aircraft designers, movie directors, playwrights, movie directors, singers, and musicians. It takes a creative mind to interpret reality, rearrange its elements and then come up with something completely new that has never been seen before. The communication design program and it’s resulting Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree is one of my gateways to becoming a better communicator, and culturally relevant creator of new digital products. My goal is eventual self-employment as well as building a mutually beneficial network with other creative artist like myself. Learning how to collaborate and function as a strong team is the way to go. The best success stories in life are those involving people who were able to find the common ways to communicate a solution to a common problem and then build a solution that benefited everyone else.
