Self Analysis of the BSN Program

Learning Self Analysis of the BSN Program

Having enrolled and almost at the completion of the BSN at New York City College of Technology, I learnt that there is a vast difference in being a registered nurse with an associate degree of nursing vs. a registered nurse with a BSN. I’ve learnt to appreciate some of the reasons as to why some employers require the BSN as entry level into nursing.Given the higher demand of an ever evolving healthcare system, in order to meet the changing needs of the patient, high levels of critical thinking, leadership, case management and health promotion is required. The BSN program better prepares the RN to meet these challenges.
Overall I am satisfied with the program for a number of reasons. I’ve also dedicated much time and effort to accomplish this achievement of which I am extremely proud.

There were a few writing intensive classes, this gave me the opportunity to master the APA format as well as improve my writing skills. I’ve also learnt how to use different databases to conduct research for all my term papers. This would be particularly important as I pursue a MSN program.

There was a nursing research course which in my opinion was an in dept course has taught how to conduct a research effective and the different parameters to consider. This would particularly important for future research activities.

Most of the nursing classes was offered on one day of the week, Wednesday, this accommodated my work schedule.

It was my first experience with online classes and as such there was much apprehension on my behalf, however once I’ve learnt how to navigate the blackboard and other features of the cuny portal, it was really convenient for me.

Some of the required classes were essential in providing that body of knowledge and professional development as a BSN graduate. Some of these classes included physical assessment, Community Nursing, Leadership, Case Management and Professional Nursing Practice.

Much support was give from the faculty and mentoring in some areas was very effectively in staying motivated to complete the program.
