Topic

  • Design Continuity (uniformity of headings, margins, color, etc)Look at all your pages, make sure that all headings are the same typeface, size, style, are on the same placement.
  • Content:
    • COVER (Page 1) : Typography Review / Featuring the name of your performer / Your Name
    • Vocabulary (Page 2)
    • Classifications (Pages 3,4,5)
    • Variation in Type:
      • Width/Weight/Posture (Pages 6,7,8)
    • Alignment (Pages 9,10)
    • Leading (Page 11)
    • Tracking & kerning (Page 12)
    • Type on a Path (Page 13)
    • PAGE 14 leave blank
  • Typography concepts and InDesign:
    • Go through your pages, make sure that they are corrected as per comments. Further, it is your responsibility to also have a typographically correct book, and that ALL topics explained in class are taken into consideration. For example in the Classification of Type assignment, should have correct tracking and kerning.
    • Additionally we are following a grid (InDesign file). Items on your pages must follow it.
  • Packaging a file. InDesign has a feature that collects all the necessary components of your book and places them in one folder. It collects the actual file, all fonts used, links to images if any. Additionally it creates a PDF of your book, and creates an InDesign IDML file (a file that is not specific to a version of InDesign)

  • How to identify a problem with a typeface:
InDesign alerts you if a typeface is missing (“pink” highlight) . You must activate or install the typeface before packaging
  • How to Package a file: InDesign go to FILE -> PACKAGE
This is a summary. Check and if OK then PACKAGE. This will bring you to the CREATE PACKAGE FOLDER

Expressive Typography:

Introduction to Project 2: We will explore the use of type as expression by working on a multi part project that will include expressive type with an existing typeface and also lettering. This part of the semester will also explore process.

Activities

  • Practice Packaging. IT is IMPORTANT to package once your file is complete.
  • DURING CLASS
    • Go to Student POSTS, then Student Posts Type Talks
      • GO to Type Talk – Posters by Rocco Piscatello. Look at Posters and read the Reflection tab. Comment on at least one poster and one Reflection

  • Place FOLDER in Google Drive
