My first internship was with a new rideshare app, where my job was to recruit drivers. After two Zoom meetings and a few emails, I realized the job description on Indeed was different from what was actually expected. It originally said the pay was $20 per hour, but I later found out it was commission-based, paying only $10 after recruiting five drivers. The company also did not follow department guidelines, so I decided to politely decline the internship.
My professor then helped me find a new internship, where I now create social media slides on important topics like gender equality and children’s education. We use Canva for designing, and all images come from its library. Each slide also includes the company’s logo, either as text with the design or just the logo itself.
I did not have to sign a confidentiality or non-disclosure agreement, so I can freely discuss my work in this journal. This experience has taught me the importance of clear job expectations and ethical responsibility in design work.
