Sites on the OpenLab

Filebird Document Library plugin

This pair of two plugins allows you to create a gallery or library containing files like PDFs or Word documents on your site.

To get started, go to your site’s Dashboard and activate two plugins:  FileBird Lite and FileBird Document Library (Lite).

Upload files for your Document Library

1. Go to Dashboard > Media Library. The FileBird plugin adds a new section to the Media Library, which is where you will upload files to add to your Document Library.

2. Click the New Folder button at the top to create a new folder for the documents you want to appear in your Document Library.

4. To upload files, click Add Media File

Enter folder name

5. Be sure to choose the folder you just created from the ‘Choose folder’ dropdown.

When you’re finished uploading files, you’ll start building the shortcode to display your Document Library.

Build your Document Library shortcode

1. Go to the Document Library, and on the right side under Document Library Settings, choose the folder where your files are saved.

2. To the left of the settings, you’ll see a preview of what your library will look like. As you choose the settings, the preview will change. The settings are:

Library title: This will be the name of your library.

Column: How many columns you want, if you’ve chosen the grid display

Limit items: How many documents do you want to display per page. The fewer you choose the more pages there will be. We recommend a larger number here to limit navigating to different pages.

Layout display: Show the documents in a grid layout (this is the default) or list.

Sort By: Order the documents by name (alphabetically), date last modified, or document size.

Sort Type: Order the documents in ascending or descending order based on the ‘Sort By’ setting.

3. Once you have finished editing the layout settings, click the Generate button, and you will see a popup window with the shortcode to copy.

Add the Document Library shortcode to a page or post

1. Go to the page or post where you want to embed your library, and paste the shortcode. Publish the page or post when you’re ready to make it live.

Paste shortcode in page or post

2. When you view the page or post, you’ll see your Document Library.

3. If you would like to change something in the layout, you will need to change the settings and generate a new shortcode. To do this, go back to step 1 in the previous section, Build your Document Library shortcode. Then delete the old shortcode in the page or post and paste in the new one.
