Based on my writing in unit 2, the overall gist was to spread awareness of the consequences in which we are living in today on climate change. Although the effects of climate change today might not be so drastic, this can very well change in a matter of years. My intended audience is young adults because we are the future. We are the ones who have to deal with the consequences of climate change. We have social media and other platforms to bring awareness to this sensitive subject. The genre in which I would like to present this would be a speech. For me, a well written and spoken speech always sticks with me, which is what I hope to present. First, I need to figure out how to not make my speech sound boring because majority of the time when people hear speeches, they automatically get bored like I do. My hopes are that I can deliver a very good speech in which it can stick to my audience and leave them thinking, “Climate change has to do be dealt with ASAP.” My worries are delivering a plain boring speech in which no one would understand the point of it.

“Boring” is certainly a worry for any thing to do with talking to people about climate change since there’s so much already out there. You might start by thinking of a specific situation where you (pretend you’re an expert or at least a well-informed journalist whose beat is climate change) are asked to give a speech. What would that situation be? Where would you be? Who would you be speaking to — if you’re talking to young people, which group of young people? Age matters, right? And what aspect? You can’t cover it all, so you’re really going to have to focus on something you care specifically about — rising seas, animals in danger, agriculture, respiratory illness… the list is pretty endless. So find the ONE thing that a specific group of young people care about the most, and go there once you’ve decided what the speech situation might be. This should be interesting — I don’t often get people wanting to do a speech, so good for you!
