Google logo

One logo that I find particularly effective is the Google logo. This logo has evolved a few times over the years, but the most recent logo was designed by Ruth Kedar. She is both and artist and designer, and was asked by the co-founders of Google- Larry Page and Sergey Brin to design their logo. There was a lot of thought when it came to choosing the icon colors, and originally it was designed using primary colors, but the secondary color green was added to give it  playful spin. It was chosen based on it’s font, exciting design, and it’s colorful layout. The original logo was designed by Sergey Brin himself in May of 1997. The logo had more of a block feel to it, sported an exclamation mark, and attempted to mimic the Yahoo! logo. The second attempt on the logo was much different due to the change in font and dropping the exclamation point. It also had more shadows on each letter in the logo. The newest Google logo was designed in May 2010 and is still used till this day. It is similar to the secondary logo, yet has decreased projected shadows and the yellow “o” has changed to a more orange tone. Google also took their logo to the next level and created Google Doodles, which are special logos. These are designed by Dennis Hwang, who created his first doodle in 2000, in honor of Bastille day. Since the creation of Google Doodles, there have been numbers of doodles dedicated to artists, scientists, creators, designers, etc. These doodles are also made for most holidays, and in 2010 the creation of interactive doodles came to life which allowed the user to click and play with them. The Google logo has come a long way, and can be know just by the letter “G” and its iconic colors red, yellow, blue, and green.
