In “Flourish”, Seligman breaks down the concept of Happiness in these first two chapters. A quote from Chapter 1 that stood out to me was on page 13, when Seligman says, “I used to think that the topic of positive psychology was happiness, that the gold standard for measuring happiness was life satisfaction, and that the goal of positivity was to increase life satisfaction.” This makes me think of how the idea of being happy is a bit more complicated. Happiness can be measured differently, like how the author mentioned the three types of happiness. According to Seligman, there are three different kinds of happiness: positive emotion, engagement, and meaning. I found this interesting because I never really thought deeply about happiness being broken down like this. I honestly was a bit confused when Seligman first brought up this theory in the first chapter, but I started believing in it as I read.
