Scheduling Conferences to Discuss Projects (week of 11/30 & 12/7): Sign up for Slots

Hi everyone:

We’ll be meeting after we return from Thanksgiving to go over your projects in more detail, address any questions/concerns we might have, and discuss strategies for revision. Optional conferences will happen the week we return from Thanksgiving (11/30), and mandatory conferences will happen the week complete drafts are due (week of 12/7): everyone needs to come see me at least once the week of 12/7. I am also happy to meet each of your multiple times, if you wish, if want to check in at various stages of the drafting / revision process (or about different aspects of your project: presentation, reflection, ePortfolio work). There are optional conference times for early in the week of 12/14 as well.

These are the slots that I have open (though I do have some flexibility on some of the days listed, so if you absolutely can’t make one of these slots or the only times you can make it are already taken, post a comment here and let me know what your availability is, and I’ll see what I can do). It’s first-come, first-serve. Just drop a comment here, indicating which slot(s) you’d like, and I’ll reserve that for you.

As always, we’ll be meeting in my office, N520. Please come prepared with work to look at and specific questions to discuss. These conferences are in additional to the feedback you will receive in class, via class discussion, peer review, and instructor feedback.

  1. Thanks for signing up everyone. Please note that I will need to have time to read your complete drafts and formulate feedback in advance of our meetings. So if you signed up for a meeting with me on Tu 12/8, that means that I will need a complete draft of your project no later than M 12/7 at 12pm (to give me at least 24 hours to look them over). If you cannot do it by then, please switch your slot to later that week.

If you’re signed up for Tu 12/8, please reply here to either confirm you’ll submit a complete draft by noon the day before, or that you will switch spots.

    • Ok. I know we’re discussing your draft on W 12/9 at 12:30pm. What will we be discussing on Tu 12/8 (since you won’t have time to make changes before class, and I won’t have read the draft already)?

        • I’m happy to discuss your work in progress, but in order for me to provide holistic feedback and a (draft) grade on the work, I need to see all materials. We can certainly discuss your Write-Up in isolation, though, tomorrow.

Since I can only review work once the final progress report & drafts are posted on our site (once I know it is up), please directly link me to your project write-up on your ePortfolio site.

  2. I’ll try and have the draft ready in it’s entirety for Thursday evening. I’m not able to meet you on campus during any of those hours because of class and outside commitments. I was hoping if you could call me Friday @ 1:30 to discuss the project or if you would be able to write a lengthy email? Please let me know

    • I’m happy to have a phone meeting on Friday afternoon to discuss your draft, but in order for me to be able to read it/provide meaningful feedback, I will need to have it no later than 4pm on Th 12/10; I have commitments Thursday evening/night and Friday morning, so won’t have a chance to look at it except after our class tomorrow. Please let me know if this is possible. If not, we can plan to meet early next week.

  3. Honestly, I do not know if I can produce 3000-5000 words and have it ready for you by Thursday @ 4pm, I will try my hardest to have a flushed out draft. I can send you most of what I have by tomorrow evening. Is it possible for me to send you the word document and you make comments and track changes so I can better understand what I need to do. I’m having quite a difficult time, is there a way for you to send me a guideline or an example of what to do. Is there a guideline for how you will grade the project? If so, are you able to post it in a blog post so myself and the class can have a clear understanding of your expectations on how you will grade the presentation, the write up etc.? I think this would make things a lot easier. Please let me know if this is doable?

    • Jodie, no one is asking you to produce 3000-5000 words out of the blue by tomorrow afternoon. As you’ve known all semester, the draft was due yesterday (I am giving you an opportunity to work further on it since you did not submit the draft the assignment called for). If you can’t get it to me by then, then I am happy to touch base about the draft early next week (we have had peer review, numerous in-class discussions/workshops, presentations, written feedback from me, and a series of individual meetings outside of class–including two this past week). I’m happy to work on you with revisions, but I need to see a draft of the write-up first. I look forward to reading it when you submit it.

The guidelines/expectations for the project (including assessment) for each component of the project are posted on our Course Site under “Final Project” and have been discussed repeatedly in class, in workshops, and in individual conferences.

(Going forward, if you have individual concerns about your project, please email me or come to see me in person. This public site–and this thread about scheduling conferences–is not an appropriate venue for this discussion.)
