HieThere I’m Mairovi

Hello fellow classmates,

My name is Mairovi Garcia and I was born in The Dominican Republic but came to the United States when i was about 7 years old. I’ve been living in Brooklyn ever since and love it (for the most part). I am attending New York City College Of Technology in hopes of achieving a Bachelor’s Degree in Hospitality and Management. I currently work at Hotel BPM Brooklyn, an independent hotel which makes its one year anniversary this month. Hopefully, in this lifetime, I get to not only be a GM of a great hotel but also own my own.

My favorite genre of literate is fiction/Drama. I don’t necessarily have a favorite book, however I do enjoy reading the many trilogies of Nora Roberts. I enjoy reading books for pleasure, especially when I’m waiting on something or someone. I dislike reading books too difficult to understand, to the point where I have to look up the meaning of every other word. As a reader and writer my weakness would most likely be vocabulary. Although the more I read the wider my vocabulary is becoming. My strengths would be understanding the meaning behind what I’m reading, if I don’t understand I do not move on until I do. In my opinion Literature is something that’s written and tends to leave and impact or contains some deeper meaning. Overall, for me, fiction literature is anything in which the mind can make up, yet find a sort of artistic way in putting it into words and leaving the reader impacted or wondering. From this course I am expecting to open my mind to many different stories, not just the ones that interest me, and to improve the way that I analyze and think about what I’m actually reading.

I’ve had a lot of experience with technology. Not necessarily with the hardware, more into the software. From computers, to cameras, to tablets, to phones, I am in love with them all.

I look forward to meeting you all and to completing this course.

Don’t hesitate to contact me for anything, I don’t bite. 🙂

  1. Thanks for this Introduction Mairovi, and welcome to the course! I know it can be difficult to build your vocabulary, but as you say, reading widely (and often!) is probably the best way to do it. Our texts this semester are quite challenging (especially ‘Lolita’ and ‘Lying’), but looking up the words will help you to understand the nuances of the stories (which are quite compelling!).
