http://www.color-wheel-pro.com/color-meaning.html
This source talks about the meaning of each color. Through the meaning of each, it can be determined what changes can be made to bring a college atmosphere to a school (City Tech). Colors are meant to create different moods. We need colors that bring motivation and positive energy to oneself.

http://smithsystem.com/resource-library/article-library/color-world/
This article talks about the impact that the colors of a classroom can have on its students. It’s based on what are the colors that influence learning, from the teachers’ and students’ perspectives.
Although my group and I are focusing mostly on the hallways, this is still important because classrooms are the most important rooms and places in a school/college. It’s important that we feel happy, motivated, and energetic when being inside them. Therefore, this article’s information can be applied to our topic.

This source shows how the architecture structure can affect the way of learning in students and how the environment can lead them to better their work ethic and concentrations. The architecture structure also has an influence on the motivation of students. Many students in a very safe and comfortable environment will have the opportunity to do better and study effectively as opposed to a student with a not so comfortable environment.

This power point shows how statistically students do in a very stable and comfortable environment. Thus, divides the experiment and the investigation into different possible subtopics that results into the way the experiment concluded the results. As this investigation goes on there are many types of scales and graphs that has provided why architectural structure is very important to the environment of a student.

This source can be useful because it focuses on the structure of the colleges and what should really be concerning when making a renovation of learning space in the college. It can maybe give people of higher level in City tech to be more involved in what the students would like to be surrounded by as in (color, learning spaces, etc.) Mainly the learning spaces or study places in City tech since there only seems to be a few and most don’t seem to be as quiet as they should be since those spaces are spaces that most wait til’ their next class or just hang out with a few friends. The architectural structure of a school can have a lot to do with a student’s encouragement to do well in school or even attend or pay attention in class.

Architectural structure (Eloina,Saldin,Sha-Kina,Ivan)

The research question is: How does architectural structure promote happiness/well-being? Students want to enter a college that has a lovely looking structure to spend 2 to 4 years in. This topic was chosen because the architectural structure makes up the mood of the students. Throughout this research the persuasion to enhancing architectural structure is needed in order for the president of City Tech to truly promote happiness/ well-being.

This topic should interest students because the environment influences motivation, and can potentially lead to success in college. Commuters’ common sayings are “I want to have a real college experience.” The dream of “having a real college experience” starts from the structure, and how the building looks. Most of the research will be within the hallways and the actual structure of the hall ways and hallways on different levels. In the project there will be source from online and also students will be answering a series of questionnaires that deals with the research question. The way the project can be narrowed is by observing small details that the hallways contain that promotes the happiness/ well-being of students along with having a college experience. To go more into depth within the project students will be asked, “How can the City Tech make their students experience a college experience? This question will provide suggestions on improving architectural structure because students care about how the campus looks like. The focus for the project is to indicate how the structure, and the appearance of City Tech can fulfill happiness/ well-being to all the students.

Happiest Place = My room

As you can tell my happiest place in New York is my room. I know it might be weird and different, but I will show you guys why my room defeats all of the beautiful places that can possibly be a happy place for me. My room is where I spent all of my life in. Now that I have my laptop it’s easier for me to stay in my room. I have all the resources that I can possibly need to learn about the world without going outside my room. I have a desk next to my bed which has a lap and stacks of books that I have already read or am going to read. I call that section my office. Across my bed my T.V (which I rarely watch) is attached to the wall, and it looks like it is floating. Unlike other places in New York, I feel very safe in my room. Also it’s never too cold or too hot it is always just right. Everything that I need for any type of apocalypse is in my room.

Though it might sound very lazy, I find it very important that the place that I live and spend most of my life in brings me happiness. I do roam around New York and hang out with friends in really cool places, but those are places where I have memories. It is different from a place that makes me happy. I have theorized something that distinguishes between a places that makes me happy and a places that brings memories. My theory is: If I go to a place that only gets me happy with friends around then it is a place of memories. However, when you are in a place where you can find happiness by yourself than I have found my happiness place. If anything happens now you know where to find me.

Experiences.

City Tech is a very interesting place. I sat down in the cafeteria and looked around. There is a large amount of diversity compared to my old high school. However, it is difficult to join groups that students divided themselves into. Every time I go to the cafeteria the group that I wish I was apart of is always there. They are always together in their laptops sharing and playing video games together. However I’m way too shy to approach and ask to join. I would seem like a creep, or very awkward. So I decided to be a “one man wolf pack,” which is very difficult.

Two of my friends from high school also attend City Tech, but I rarely see them. I found my way to the library and I saw how spacious and quite it was. I fell in love, people studying very hard, endless rows of books, and students catching up in their sleep before the next class. I thought to myself “YES! I will finally make friends here.” I sat down in a desk, and I stared at my desk for a few minutes. I felt very excited and I couldn’t believe that I was actually a college student. I then remembered why I came to the library in the first place. I had to make copies of a pages for my Sociology home work. I finally got the book from the front desk and little that I know, I would need to purchase a card to make copies. I got really upset and started to sweat, I thought to myself “I cannot start out my freshmen year by not doing home work”. I did not have cash on me so I went to the second level of the library and took a pictures of the pages I needed to make copies. My camera quality was the worst quality you can imagine. I emailed myself the pictures till I went home.

I finally printed out the pages for my homework but I saw was that my fingers were in the pictures. I felt very ridiculous. It was better than not turning anything in. I completed my home work, and the next day I got to class I turned it in with a large amount of embarrassment. The next class my sociology professor called my name and I jumped. She was just calling my name to hand back my homework. When I received it my heart dropped. She gave me a 75 out of 100 and said “This home work should be in better quality and you did not follow my orders so you are disobeying the professor’s tasks”. I was not letting this comment get to me. I will need to be more aware of options and take the opportunities that are being afford.

H(app)athon and the location where happiness is most seen.

The H(app)athon measures the amount of happiness and well-being a person has in order to increase it over time. Now that technology has advance the H(app)athon’s mission is to “To utilize emerging technology to improve human well-being and drive positive social change.” http://happathon.wikispaces.com/Mission+Statement. The way they would like to make it very effective is for people to join and lead workshops and promote so that the app can be spread. The reason why this program exist is in order for everyone to measure their life and believe that their life is more valuable than money even though we need money to survive. There are happiness indicators to compare once self and it could signify to the person the national happiness they obtain. In the motherboard website I find it very interesting how people measured their happiness level through a post through twitter. The outcomes were that most individuals were happier in the location of famous parks like Central Park and places where many people could socialize a lot.

Another study that was found was that people were living not as happy in areas where there was a lot of cars traveling and areas that can be loud. Which makes sense no one is going to enjoy living next to a bridge that is filled with cars all the time with obnoxious honks. These happiness studies also show a very interesting factor for example in the http://hedonometer.org/index.html, shows the different days of the weeks and shows the ratings of happiness through out the week. I would of expected to see a lot of Fridays to be higher than any other weekday, however many stood the same and my hypothesis was incorrect. I would like to discuses why are weekdays and weekends have similar happiness levels according to the data?

McNuggets Rap.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-lOyZKmRRuI

Although this commercial is seven years old, it still persuades me to get some mcnuggets. Knowing that food makes people happier it was easy to target teens which are hungry most of the time. Teens most likely to listen to rap, now by coming across to this commercial it is easier to remember, and entertaining. I can see why McDonald’s chose these individuals to advertise their food. First, the two teenagers seem very excited to get mcnuggets. Through out the rap McDonald’s askes a rhetorical question in order to convey to the viewers that mcnuggets are delicious and can get you as excited as these to teenagers. Lastly, humor is a very strategic way of getting people’s attention.Through out this humor the commercial can be spread through out the world and mcnuggets will be a happiness to the desires of the viewer.  The mcnuggets rap inspires the viewers, and promotes happiness to the stomach that was once sad and empty.

El Secreto =The Secret

The people we study, and changed the world all knew something the rest of the world did not. It was the “Secret.” Rhonda Bryne, the author of “The Secret” uncovers a secret that makes cliche quotes sound like they are achievable. The secret is “attraction,” What ever the person attracts it gets. Attraction is seen as something a person thinks about and has the mentality. Which then attracts everything the person has in the mind. The mind play a big part in the way the law attraction works. Many people have tried to focus on their dream goals, but many gave up after waiting impatiently. Bryne quoted other individuals that knew about the secret and many of them figured out that there is a big reason why the goals are not being accomplished. Many of them have said that people think of the things they do not wish to have as a dominant thought. This therefore makes everything they don’t want to happen to occur. The strategy is to make your goal a dominant thought in order to see what you want as long as you keep thinking about it. Throughout the book Bryne mentions the mind of the person should always be on their goals and visualize them as you are finally achieving your goals.

Victory Speeches [Summaries and Analysis]

[Bill Deblasio’s summary]

“Tales of two cities” said by Bill Deblasio in his victory speech September 10th. Is his distinction of New York during the “Bloomberg era.” Mr. Deblasio was introduced by his daughter which he thank his voters and supporters for his achievements thus far. Deblasio takes a moment before he starts his speech and introduces the tragedy of 9/11. He believes in that moment New York came together as a unit, and no one was left behind. Deblasio also introduces the topic of Stop and Frisk which he believes it leads to racial profiling which will departure the unity Deblasio is working for. As Deblasio’s kids are becoming successful in school he wants to better educated adolescents through out New York. By attacking all the controversial problems Deblasio believes that he will better the lives of families in the wonderful city of New York.

[Joe Lhota summary]

“We will unify the party strengthen and become victorious in November,” said the Republican, Joe Lhota on his victory speech. Lhota thanks all of his supporters and mentions that he has a solid team that he will always go to when he needs help making decisions. Lhota wants to make small business more successful according to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QHC1ZqoU5vU  He also mentions that the education levels should increase and make New York city a more united city.

[Analysis]

Bill Deblasio’s winning speech was very strategic. I think his daughter instead of any random supporter is very clever. Like the news reporter said she was his “secret weapon.” My hypothesis on why Mr. Deblasio made that decision is to show the city the prime example of his view of success. He was the only candidate that had their victory speech in Brooklyn. He most of done that because he probably lives in Brooklyn and has a lot of his supporters in the location. I personally do think New York have to work more as a unit and provide each other for help. I’m not very convinced that everything he says is going to happen, because he briefly mentions the taxation of wealthy individuals will increase so that the less fortunate could get a better education and a better life. That is something the United States is trying to achieve, but creates a chaos. Maybe persuading wealthy individuals to donate money to school that need more supplies rather than increasing tax on them would be better. Deblasio’s focus is on the correct types of problems for the city, but how would he approach them?

As I watched Joe Lhota introduce himself and sell himself to the rest of the audience I didn’t think he was enthusiastic which is a big deal to me. As he finally got to his point and started to go on with his speech I was convinced by  his words. Especially when he said “There should be more Charter schools with the best teachers.” I came from a charter school which I loved because it has prepared me for college and I was challenged and took many challenging classes that I thought I wouldn’t take. In the other hand, Lhota knows about Deblasio’s “Tales of Two cities,” and believes that he is trying to detach New York city. I certainly disagree with Lhota on that and I believe Deblasio is actually trying to make the city more unified then Lhota. Deblasio made Lhota’s speech seem dull due to his secret weapon, his daughter. My question now stands for both of the candidates, how are they going to approach the problems ,and how will they unify the city?

“How Happy Are you?”

According to John Tierney’s article “Leaders in Britain and France,” are not the only ones concern about the happiness of their people. The United States also is involved in the people’s emotions specifically Somerville, Massachusetts. John Tierney described it as “promote policies that produce more than just material well-being.” This might be his way of saying that the leaders that citizens look up to is finally making a change based on the mood the people are in.

The census asked “On a scale of 1-10 how happy do you feel right now?” Many people answered unfaithfully because they were already happy, or they’ve done something they enjoy doing. Many answered “10.” However, many people were truthful with their answer. “One man gave himself a 6, explaining, I would like to be three inches taller and speak Quechua fluently.” In this census we get a mixture of data. Mr. Tierney added that it is a “perfect test tube” because somerville is a “growing population of young professionals and academics.” In some areas were nicked named “Slummerville” due to the crime rates  and reputations.

Mayor Joseph may have disagreed with Mr.Tierney and found a counterargument saying “We need to change our mind-set in how we serve people.” He also called it “a no-brainer” due to the lack of honesty of answers in the census. Daniel Gilbert, a Harvard psychology professor was introduced to the census. He helped “detailed telephone survey, using randomized sample of Somerville’s 76,000 residents.” Now the census becoming effective because it is randomly selecting people in the city and having a person asking you the question rather than a paper can clear out misinterpretation that can how happy a person truly is.
