Please use this thread to reflect on your experience researching and writing your Op-ed. Did you enjoy the project at all? Why did you choose your topic? How much did you know already and how much did you learn from your research? Did you learn more about opposing viewpoints? Did your opinions change at all? How difficult was the writing process? Did you write and revise multiple drafts? Work with the writing center? If so, was that a good experience? Are you satisfied with your work? Why and/or why not?
You don’t have to answer these each separately, just reflect on them in your response. If you want to develop each answer separately, you can do that. Please develop and explain your answers.

This project was something I really enjoyed doing because it helped me gain new knowledge, and it also supported the knowledge I already had. My topic was about electric cars, their benefits, and why we should change to electric cars. I picked this topic because I personally drive an electric car, a Tesla Model Y, and I wanted to know why people aren’t changing from regular combustion vehicles to electric vehicles and what we should do to make sure the world knows that electric vehicles are very vital when it comes to reducing pollution in the world. During my research, I learned that people don’t want to change to electric vehicles because they can be too expensive and because these electric vehicles cover a shorter range than regular combustion vehicles. However, during my research, I didn’t find a major reason for people not to change to electric vehicles; there was a small of people who didn’t want to change to electric vehicles because they like combustion vehicles based on their sound, power, and experience when driving. When I started writing, I made three to four different drafts that got better as I changed some words, changed ideas, and changed the order in which some ideas were written down. The writing process was not difficult for me because I already had a clear view of the different ideas that I was going to talk about; the hard part of this project was coming up with a good and appropriate opposing view. For my final draft, I had the chance to visit the writing center, where they pointed out the weak spots of my project and helped me rewrite it. I personally recommend the writing center as a good place to go and check your project before you submit it; they would sit next to you and go step by step to help you. In the end, when the last word was written down, I realized the good work I did; I was satisfied with the time and work I put into this project.
Working on my Op-ed project was surprisingly enjoyable. Initially, I chose this topic because I’ve always been curious about the impact technology has had on all of us. The most eye-opening part was learning about challenges industries and workers face as a result of my topic. It’s crazy seeing how much technology has developed and led to so many different opportunities but causes problems along the way. It forced me to take into consideration the broader picture of the work industry. The writing process itself was a bit simple due to my project being really information/number based. Yes, there were multiple drafts. As I dug deeper, new information would pop up, and I had to adjust my writing due to that. I didn’t work with the writing center, but I did get feedback from my sister who recently graduated and she helped me along the way, which turned out to be very valuable. Her perspective helped me see gaps in my arguments. In the end, I was satisfied with the outcome of my writing. This project allowed me to focus on a topic that is not only relevant to our present but will shape our future.
I enjoyed doing this project because I got to learn more about what I was already interested in. I chose the topic about what has happened to parents’ authority over their children. I chose this topic because it has an impact that will affect the next generations and children’s future. I have lots of nieces and nephews and only wish the best for them and other kids. I also chose it because of how society is pressuring a lot of people to do things they don’t really want. I knew the basic changes that led parents to have a less of a say in their children’s life but as I digged deeper it’s more than just a say. I learned that NYC does not have these options for childrens in schools but other states already have life changing options for children without their parents constant. The opposing viewpoints made me realize that society pressure and parents’ selfishness are damaging children’s future without realizing. I didn’t change my opinion, rather it got stronger. As I was trying to support my argument It was hard to find articles because people are not talking about this so much due to being scared of society. However, the resources I found are relevant to show those who disagree that this is what it looks like when children are deciding on their own without the parents’ say. I didn’t use the writing center but I had two of my older cousins revise it with me. After all, I was satisfied with my paper because I put my effort and focus into it to let others see my side of the argument.
Creating an op-ed was fun because it helped me learn facts about my research topic that I probably didn’t know. I chose my topic because it seemed like a topic that still exists in the country and it was a good opportunity to grow my knowledge. I had a little knowledge of the subject since there have been many cases where I have witnessed it. This project made me know how money is spent in the health area. My previous opinions did not change because what I researched was not very different from what I knew. The writing process was difficult because at first I didn’t have much knowledge of what exactly I should do but then I had a minimal idea of what I should do. This time I did not use the writing center because there were no appointments available. I am not satisfied with my work because I am not sure if I did it right.
