For my Culmination Project, I am helping organize a Mario kart Tournament at the Voorhees Theatre. The event will require audio, video, lighting, and management support. My role will be as the Lighting Designer and Light Board Programmer, and I will be working alongside a team to handle different aspects of the event.
Samir introduced me to this project and proposed the idea. I was immediately interested, especially when I thought about the lighting for the tournament. As a fan of Nintendo games, I was excited about creating an event that brings people together for a fun night. It seemed like a great way to engage the City Tech community. Organizing an event of this size required a large team with various skills, which is why we’re collaborating with a group of talented people.
Methods:
The project’s main tasks involve forming teams for lighting, video, audio, and management. The lighting crew will design cues to highlight the winner, games and create the preshow and post-show lighting. I will be coordinating this with Michael Shivamber and Professor Miguel Valderamma in creating designs and working on logistics of installing the show between existing events.
This will be mainly done using Vectorworks, Autocad, Lightwright and ETC Nomad software.
Deliverables:
Lighting design overlook
Light plot
Scenic ground plan
Show file
Color scheme
Cue list
Poster
Presentation
The event will take place in the Voorhees Theatre and will be presented with a poster showing the event details and results. This project will help me showcase and develop my design, teamwork, and programming skills. It will also allow me to put into practice what I’ve learned at City Tech, while creating a fun and welcoming space for people to share their love for video games.
