Garnet Garcia – HW3: What’s On Your Thanksgiving Plate?

This was the first time I made brownies for Thanksgiving!! It was really fun and my little sisters helped. My father made sweet plantain and bacon-wrapped filet mignon. Apparently, he made this for his dad’s 50th birthday back in the 70s or 80s and this was his first time making the dish since, so that was really special to me.

Daisy Xia: HW4: Is It Time to Take Down the Mona Lisa?

In my opinion I believe that the Mona Lisa should be taken down. I of course don’t mean forever I believe that the Mona Lisa should be taken down for a period of time maybe for a couple of years and then put back up again for a short while before going into storage once again. I believe this because from reading the article and on a more personal opinion I can tell that the people come to the Louvre to see the Mona Lisa is not even interested in seeing it. They just want to take selfies to prove that they saw it and get out as quickly as possible since its so crowded. Also the Louvre talks about how there are so many people that they even had to shut down it for a couple of days. In addition the article states people criticize the Mona Lisa questioning what’s so special about this painting. I feel if we take down the Mona Lisa for a while people might appreciate it a little more after not being able to see it. Of course people will still be able to study it since it is all over the internet and in books and many copies of it is sold everywhere.

This is me enjoying two empanadas that I had made for my families thanksgiving dinner. Overall since I had such a big family I had to make 40 empanadas with beef and cheese. My sister made some amazing potatoe salad and my grandmother ofcourse is the backbone of the operation. She made Turkey, rice, stuffing, sweet potatoe and tamales. She also had time to make a delicious flan. I dont know how my grandmother does it all on her own, but nonetheless her food is always the best.

HW3: What’s on your Thanksgiving Plate?

Every year on Thanksgiving, we would gather either at my family’s place or my friend’s house. This year Thanksgiving was a little different because instead, we had dinner on Thursday we moved it on Friday to make sure everyone was available for the dinner gathering. On Thursday, i decided to spend time cleaning and taking advantage of catching up on my school work. On Friday, friends and family gathered all together for dinner. I helped my mom with turkey, mahsi, goulash, and other more. There were a few laughs here and there sharing a few memories, and gladly, we were able to go to the mall since it was close to my house.

HW4: Is It Time to Take Down the Mona Lisa?

I think the reason that people disappoint to “Mona Lisa” is they need to wait for a such long line to reach out a painting which they may already see a hundred times on media or internet. A  simply hanging painting cannot make them satisfied anymore. I don’t feel like that building a pavilion for her is a perfect way to solve. Because of the reputation of Mona Lisa, people will still swarm to visit her. But it may be the most available way. Of course, it’s also a good way to make money. When the Mona Lisa was housed alone, people had to pay more to see it. And restrictions can arouse people’s curiosity. But this is just a palliative way.
