Marilyn & Me–Lawrence Schiller Exhibit 5/31-6/30/12

Marilyn & Me–Lawrence Schiller Exhibit at Chelsea’s Steven Kasher Gallery

Photojournalist, Pulitzer Prize/Emmy/Oscar-winner Lawrence Schiller will be on display at the Steven Kasher Gallery in Chelsea this upcoming June. His intimate (and beautiful) photographs of Marilyn Monroe will be exhibited–many of which have never been on display for public viewing.

The first link below is exhibit information for viewing.

The second is a link to the same site, showing many images of Marilyn Monroe that will be shown. These gorgeous black & white photos show Monroe in an artistic light, displaying her natural beauty and display of femininity. Schiller captures Monroe at what seems like candid moments, as she lives a lavish life and stays beautiful while doing it. Even the posed photos seem to have an artistic touch to them. The photos taken at her 36th birthday party capture intimate moments of the bombshell with many friends surrounding her beauty.

Marilyn Monroe is one of the greatest of Hollywood’s icons of all times. However, as sexy and sparkling as she, Monroe was also a very mysterious figure. On the fiftieth anniversary of her death she will be featured in every magazine and newspaper across the globe but there are only few who claim to have solved the riddles of her past. Marilyn Monroe remains a puzzle to the audience in spite of the hundreds of books and articles written about her. I think having someone like Lawrence Schiller to present the exhibition of Monroe’s photographs is truly exciting. The photographer was not an outsider, he knew Marilyn personally. From Schiller’s words, they were communicating quite intimately at times. Schiller not only exposes the photographs no one had ever seen before, but he also writes a book about his experience with Marilyn. Hopefully Marilyn & Me: A Photographer’s Memories will shed some light on Monroe’s mysterious past.

Marilyn Monroe is a famous celebrity in the world of photography that made her popular worldwide but as our professor cheng spoke to us she committed suicide and that the photographer schiller showed the dark side of monroe . This exhibition will be really interesting to observe and I would love to visit myself and see the photos that were never displayed . I think it would be interesting to see the photos that were never shown. According to Marilyn Monroe history popularity it seemed she had it all the money , the cars, the people but she was never truly happy inside I guess. This also reminds me of Diane Arbus because she also committed suicide and projected it in her photos.
