New camera prototype produces a description of the photo, rather than an image

this is an interesting article i came across. This new camera produces words instead of the actual picture!they say a picture is worth a thousand words but in this case they will only be a few. this could possibly turn into a new trend to take over apps (even instagram). this descriptive new camera is still new and interesting because instead of just simply taking and viewing a photo, this camera takes a pictures, the picture is then sent to a real human who describes it, and sends it back to you. This product is still in the making and they have recently just made a prototype

i personally think that this new descriptive camera is interesting but not many people will buy it. i can write what i see in a few words by myself. there is no WOW factor or anything to make the consumers feel like it is worth the money. The article does say that this will help consumers search for their photo’s more easily, kind of like with itunes where you simply type the name and the song will come up. we will have to wait and see if this product will take off and become a great hit, personally i dont think it will go very far.

  1. Not so sure if I’m sold on the concept of this camera. It has pros and cons.

It could be cool to have if you’re traveling and want to document the moment with description and commentary. Or, it would be a great tool if you are in an industry or field in which the addition of details included with an image could be beneficial.

However–Sandy, you’re right. I can take a video on my phone and send it, including sound and a picture–grant it, a moving picture, but still–same concept. Or, a person can snap a picture, and then send a voice message. There are plenty of ways to get the same idea done with what is currently available, especially with smartphones. And, we’ll see what the price is…it might be better to invest in the new iPhone.

  2. This idea seems rather absurd. It feels as if it is aimed toward the lazy. It is fully possible to name files so that you do not misplace them and it is easy to create folders for specific events. It is even possible in some programs to add keywords to your photos, making a search of your own images that much simpler.

It would also appear you have to pay over a dollar every time you use the application. Considering that this application is fairly useless to anyone who is willing to take one or two minutes and file their own images I find that this appears to be a very desperate attempt to get money out of people’s pockets. It is aimed at careless individuals and attempts to profit off of their laziness.

    • I totally agree with you! Why pay for something you can do yourself. This whole idea of describing pictures is really hard to accomplish anyway. First you need to have an internet connection to send the image to the person who is going to describe it; then you have to pay for the service that takes a “matter of minutes,” so how long are you going to take if you have a whole bunch of pictures? Are you going to be waiting all night? I rather do it myself.

Cool concept if you need description with every photo you take, it can come in handy when trying to find a particular photo. Not sure its going to catch on but it is a unique idea. Its all about building a better mouse trap!

I believe this to be a very cool concept and great idea; however, I feel that the photo reserves more meaning if the photographer himself or accomplices write the descriptive entailment behind the photo. The signifiance of the photo is all lost if a random person conveys other ideas of the image then rather intended.
