Presentation Notes & Clarifications

You do not need to solve the issues now – your goal is to identify and clarify the problems that you will resolve moving forward during the semester- 

For the presentation you can work in any software provided the end product is either a cohesive PDF or Powerpoint presentation.  For the Thursday class these are to be uploaded to Blackboard by midnight the night before your presentation. For the Wednesday afternoon class you must upload by noon on Wednesday.  Only 1 team member needs to upload the team presentation:

A few good slides is better than a lot of slides with little useful information. For each slide note the initials of who worked on the slide.  Be efficient so the presentations go quickly. If just one person – just their initials, it two use two or if everyone use all  (this is part of the basis for the individual grade)

You can make use of the student designers drawings as much as you need – you can work on top of them etc.  (just remember to credit them)

Please keep all presentations in the order listed below:

  1. Team Intro Slide (photos and names of each of you)
  2. Team Building Analysis
    1. Structure (structural grid and columns, proposed floor to floors)a
      (include your AutoCad grids here)
    2. Mechanical Systems (where will you locate mechanical room and how will you distribute duct work vertically and horizontally)
    3. Vertical Circulation & Egress (corridors and egress stairs – there should be at least 2, where will the elevators be located)
  3. Team Site Analysis (how will the site conditions impact the design of the building and the facade?)
    1. Circulation, Noise, Vibration, Sun Path & Shadows
    2. View to and from the building
    3. Land Use & Massing – of buildings around the site (not your building) note how tall they are and what their use is (residential, commercial, institutional, etc.)
  4. Team precedent case study
    1. Presentation of the building you visited, what did you learn or observe and how does it affect your building?
    2. If you all visited the same building this can be a combined presentation if not then each of you needs to present.  Perhaps you can find a way to put them together into a comparison chart or presentation.
  5. Team program of spaces and sizes (how many and how big)
    1. A list of what is in your building
    2. A list of what is missing but should be included
  6. Individual Facade
    1. Select from the list provided (Exterior-Wall-Systems-Checklist) or choose your own.
    2. Each of you must pick two materials – one a glass curtain wall and the second a solid material of some type.
    3. A good way to do this is to show photos of built projects that look like what you want to do – so images with text is a good choice.
    4. This will be the basis for starting your research log.
  7. Small model
    1. This is not a structural model – no columns! – the purpose is for you and your team to better understand the building, where there are double height spaces etc.  This is not a redesign.
    2. Scale is not critical – make it small so you can bring it to school each day.
    3. Create the model by printing the drawings given to you by the student designer and spray mount them onto chipboard and cut them out.
    4. Make it come apart to the floors lay flat.  Consider only making two walls that intersect like and X with a slot where they meet so they can come apart – these space out the floors.  You can make this without glue.
