I hope everyone remembered that the college was closed today and no classes or office hours were scheduled.

I wanted to also take the opportunity to think about the significance of today, Indigenous Peoples’ Day, in the context of our work within this FYLC. We have been talking about reflection in built environments. But we can also think reflectively about the land we occupy. City Tech, for example, is on the land taken from the Munsee Lenape people. We can research further to develop a fuller sense of where we are, and what overlaps and juxtapositions we can consider as we observe and learn more.

Take a look at the Native Land interactive map, which is where I went to see what land our school is on, and more–really explore! I also consulted Native Governance Center’s website and their information about making a land acknowledgment to write this post and to learn more.
