Cantilever
1. A projecting bracket used for carrying the cornice or extended eaves of a building

Abacus: A slab, the uppermost member of a capital.

dovetail- to join or fit together compactly or harmoniously.
Baluster: One of a series of short vertical posts, often ornamental, used to support a rail.
Bay: A regularly repeating division of a façade, marked by fenestration.
Canopy: A metal frame clad with fabric that projects from a building entrance over the sidewalk to the curb where it’s supported on vertical posts
Column : A vertical, cylindrical support. In classical design it is composed of a base (except in the Greek Doric order), a long, gradually tapered shaft, and a capital.
Coping: A protective cap, top, or cover of a wall parapet, commonly sloping to protect masonry from water
Double hung: A type of window with two sash, each sliding on a vertical track.
Drip molding: A projecting molding around the head of a door or window frame, often extended horizontally at right angles to the sides of the frame, intended to channel rain away from the opening; also called a drip lintel.

Mansard roof (French roof)
This is a curb hip roof in which each face has two slopes, the lower one is steeper than the upper. It originated from the French mansarde after the accomplished 17th-century French architect noted for using (not inventing) this style, François Mansart. 1666.
Fireback – a thick iron plate placed at the back of a hearth to protect the wall and reflect heat into the room.
Nogging: brick masonry used to fill the spaces between the members of a timber frame
Daub (pronounced: dawb): a soft, adhesive coating material, such as plaster, grease, or mud
Wattle and daub: a form of wall construction, consisting of wattles, covered and plastered with clay or mud.
Brick: molded rectangular block of clay baked by the sun or in a kiln until hard and used a building and paving material
Eyebrow: A low dormer on the slope of a roof. It has no sides, the roofing being carried over it in a wavy line
plication- the act or procedure of folding.

moor- to fix firmly; secure.
anopisthograph- a manuscript, parchment, or book having writing on only one side.
empurple- to color or become purple.
Zoning – The act of removing the barriers to creative and thoughtful urban design, by only allowing development patterns covered in the seminars the local planners attended during a conference 5 years ago.
Transit Oriented Development – Suburbs within a 10 mile radius of a future planned rail corridor (to be powered by rainbows and biofuel)
trundle- to move or walk with a rolling gait.

Placemaking – The circular drive or “round-about” within a retail / lifestyle center
New Urbanist – Much like the Hell’s Angels keeping the crowds from jumping at the Rolling Stones, only with a lot more paperwork, and guilt.
rime- a coating of tiny, white, granular ice particles, caused by the rapid freezing of water droplets.
Cast stone
Cement cast to resemble stone.
Concrete with a fine aggregate or mortar which is cast into blocks or small slabs using special molds so as to resemble natural building stone
svelte- slender, especially gracefully slender in figure.
pontificate- to speak in a pompous or dogmatic manner.
quench- to slake, satisfy, or allay as in thirst, desires, or passion.
erinaceous- of the hedgehog kind or family.
