Visit to Brooklyn Collection of Brooklyn Public Library

Next Monday, 10/30, we’ll go to the Brooklyn Collection of the Brooklyn Public Library.  Directions

Be at the top of the front steps of the library at 1 PM and text your classmate if you are running late. If you know you will be late, please enter the library and go to the 2nd floor. The Brooklyn Collection is in the middle of the library overlooking the atrium.

The nearest subway is the 2/3 at either Grand Army Plaza or Eastern Parkway (the library is about equidistant). The only other train that is nearby is the Q at 7th Ave. The B41 bus is another option but I’d recommend just taking the subway.

Fieldtrip to NY Historical Society 10/18

Meet specifically at the entrance of the NY Historical Society on Central Park West at 1 pm sharp. If you are late, text your buddy/partners and report to the bag check. They will send you up to the reading room where we’ll be having our class. Remember to bring: 5 sheets of paper or your notebook and a pencil [NO PENS]! We may also be able to bring in our sketchbooks. Photography is allowed without flash. We will be expected to check out bags, coats, etc.

NYC Wikipedia Edit-a-Thon for extra credit on 10/25, 4-6 pm

We’ll learn the ins and outs of Wikipedia in class but did you know you too can contribute to Wikipedia? This experience will strengthen your research skills and we will give you extra credit if you participate: just let us know about your attendance (Prof. Berger will definitely be there). Here is more information:

When: Wednesday, Oct. 25th, 4-6pm
Open to students, faculty, and staff. RSVP: nalmeida@citytech.cuny.edu

Never edited Wikipedia before? Set up an account before the workshop.

Research Homework

Use either the NY Times or Brownstoner to find an article about your selected site. If you find an article published in a magazine like Architectural Digest, that is also fine.

Next class (9/25) will meet at the corners of Jay and Front Streets.
