Hi, my name is Angie Li. Welcome to my e-Portfolio page! Here is a glimpse as to how I ended up choosing a career in dental hygiene:

Growing up, I would go on weekly trips to the supermarket with my cousins and our parents to get all sorts of sugary drinks and snacks. These weekly trips were our parents’ way of showing their love. Reflecting back, this might have been one of the contributing factors as to why I was at the dentist so often. From getting silver crowns to multiple fillings each visit, it felt like I was there every month. I do not blame my parents though, they were never really educated on the importance of oral health either. Even though all these dental visits sparked my initial interest in dentistry, I never really thought about it as a career path because I knew I wanted to become a teacher when I grow up.

I was always interested in the sciences. It has always been one of my stronger subjects in school. When I got to college, I was open to a lot more majors and career paths. When I figured out that I no longer wanted to pursue a career path in education, I immediately knew that I wanted to do something in the dental field. I explored different options and ultimately came to the decision that I wanted to pursue a career in dental hygiene after obtaining my Bachelors of Arts in Biochemistry. Oral health education was not something that I received as a kid. This is one of the changes I hope to install in any office I end up working in. Over the course of this program, I am constantly reassured that I have made the correct decision to become a dental hygienist. I genuinely enjoy what I do in the clinic and all of the patient interaction that I experience weekly.
