Philosophy of Nursing

Nursing is a rewarding profession that requires great knowledge and compassion when providing care. It is also a profession that requires mental and emotional strength. It is also a career that requires lifelong learning to keep up with new threats and information that are affecting our community and workplace. Nurses have a duty to provide safe, patient-centered care and to treat each patient based on their individual needs. Care derived by nurses’ is scientific research known as evidence-based practice. Every day nurses learn new skills and information to improve their nursing practice. Nurses are not only students that learn but are also teachers that teach clients and fellow workers. Nurses assume various roles during practice, as needed. Nurses are care takers, active listeners, advocates for their clients, supporters, managers, and collaborators. They are team players that collaborate with other professionals involved in client care to provide the best possible care for their clients to improve their health and quality of life.

Care provided by nurses should not only be reflected from knowledge and evidence based practice but also from compassion and sympathy. Being compassionate and sympathetic aid in developing therapeutic relationship with clients that will also improve their health and quality of life. Nurses have a desire to help others without expecting a reward. Nurses are open minded, they do not judge, and do not discriminate against race, culture, or beliefs. Nurses are strong professionals dedicated to help clients, families, and the community.
