Learning Self-Analysis

I entered the Baccalaureate Program at New York City College of Technology right after I graduated with my Associate of Applied Science. The education in the Baccalaureate program is very different from the Associate program. In the Associate program I developed excellent clinical skills and it was more patient care based. In the Baccalaureate program I developed a mixture of skills that will further my performance as a Registered nurse. Physical Assessment taught me how to asses a client from head to toe and determine what is normal and what should be further assessed. Nursing research taught me how to look for research related to healthcare and determine its validity. Nursing case management helped me develop skills to manage each individual client whether they are being discharged or transferring to another facility. Nursing case management also taught me how to communicate with clients and/or their families about their plan of care. Nursing leadership helped me develop leadership skills to be able to supervise others and communication skills to communicate with the health care team. Community and Urban health have shown me a complete different side of nursing, outside of the hospital. Community and urban health have taught me ways to reach the people in the community and these classes have taught me different illnesses and behaviors that are negatively affecting them. Professional nursing has opened my eyes to the different issues that are currently circulating and can affect nurses now and in the future. Overall, the Baccalaureate program has led me to acquire new knowledge that will further enhance my skills and performance as a nurse. It has also shown me that there is more to nursing than a hospital.
