debriefing

We thought the objective for problem 4 was to get the cheapest set on the first round of estimation and left no room to negotiate and compromise on price or build method. The labor estimate and the way we broke up the flats depended on how well we could mask the seams. The floors needed testing for us to get a solid confidence in how to break it up.

Once the methods were decided, breaking up the flats into components and sections were easy, but keeping the considerations for door frame clearances and window frames is still something that I need to work on.

We need to create a master checklist and be able to take tasks that they can handle. I thought that we could continue to work independently of each other and just be able to snap together the information into a master file, but we each had different ways of file keeping and documenting prices and quotes.

Analysis

In my future projects, I need to be able to take the leadership role instinctively and assign tasks naturally. I need to be able to take on tasks and delegate goals and set up meetings even when all my current tasks have been completed.

In the real world, labor would be charged hourly and real comparisons need to be drawn between fabricating stuff for the stage vs purchasing the real thing or objects pre-made.

Application

I should keep a master price sheet for easy material estimates. A check list of tasks and sections should be put in place even if I’m the only one working on a project. I should make a master template with my preferred styles set up. I need to communicate regually with my team even if I don’t have any updates on my work, to see where their progress and help them if possible. I need to set up a central could service to keep a common set of files to always work with the most up to date files with my members.
