In the fist reading “ the right to the sidewalk”. Cahill shows you different examples of how young people are being stop by cops. You can also say that majority of the people who are being stop by the NYPD are young people. Or someone from the African American or Hispanic races. The article also states that there has being a long struggle over the space of the sidewalk which could ultimately lead to someone going to jail. This article also touch a very sensitive subject about neighbourhoods that are predominantly coloured. Even though this is a sensitive subject it got the researches points across. In the second reading “Fallen Fruit” it show how neighbourhoods organized different section to plant different fruits from banana to lemons to peaches. To know answer the question i do not think that it is possible for city to have a culture of participation. The United States is largely diversified and they are going to be resistance from citizens. Not everyone is like minded and are willing to participated in an organized sharing of a certain space. We as humans would naturally think that it is possible to have such a thing in our society but it is just not possible in this country. The wounds of racism are still to fresh for people to just agree to share a space. Some of the things that participating and sharing would have to overcome is rqcism and the stripping of the rights of people of colour. For an experiment like this to work we would have to wait another 400 years or so.

What a pessimistic outlook! 400 years… really? You are certainly right that racism has limited the potential for communal space and free speech. It may be that this social ill needs to be eliminated before a free public space can be established.
