Visual Quote Sketches

The first sketch I made with the quote “When you’re broken on the ground…you will be found”. Initially I wanted to have the bottom half of the drawing to be entirely covered in broken glass, but found the idea to be too stylized for anyone to read the quote out. Instead, I decorated the letters to resemble sharp pieces of glass and had them spread out. The focal point was on this scattered “floor” with the final pull towards the latter half of the quote situated on the upper left corner.

For the second sketch of my visual quote, I went with a magnifying glass to place emphasis on the words “You will be found”. I decided to have the first half of the quote outside and around the magnifying glass, as I felt that having the entire quote in the glass would distort the initial meaning and focus (“found”, not “lost” in a bunch of text).

The final sketch of my visual quote, in which I drew a broken compass lying around the ground. For this piece I split the quote into two halves. The first being in a larger font and closer to the viewer and the second half being smaller and further away from the viewer. My idea with the compass is that it leads one to whichever direction they choose to go. In this case I had it point to the second half of the quote to emphasize “found”.
