The Metropolitan Museum of Art was the attraction that I choose for my NYC attraction assignment. The MET has been a landmark destination in the city since it was first opened in 1874. It’s an incredible collection over 5000 years of some of the worlds history & art. Within its walls from every corner of the globe you can find art work paired with rich documentation of where each piece comes from. I believe that the beauty and allure of the museum is due to the the broad scope of this intensive collection regardless of race, age, gender financial background. Whether you are a politician or an artist, a tourist or a been a New York City native I feel as though it would be quite difficult to experience the MET and not get marvel at the majestic atmosphere. The incredible alabaster statues from the greeks, the ancient battle garments of feudal Japan, or the impressive stone tablets or the awesome coffins and jewels of Egypt.
All in all the The Met is truly a New York sight to behold, as it is a humbling experience bringing everyone that passes through its doors, back through time. In some respects the MET is very similar to a condensed version of the city of New York. It is a melting pot of immigrant cultures both modern and traditional, and crowded with people. My most recent visit to the MET quite enjoyable although it never ceases too amaze me how much of a small child I become whenever I’m wandering through its walls. I’d gone though on a date their with my girlfriend on Friday night we both agreed there were a crazy amount of people, wandering around, children running from all sides. I myself am a city boy so it didn’t bother me one bit, she however is from Mississippi and has never fully adjusted to seeing so many people. The woman that checked us in at the front desk was the only one that wasn’t very inviting. Personally I cant say, I blame her though she must haver seen so many people coming and going while sitting stationary in the lobby for hours (I’m sure she was ready to start her Friday night). I feel like the a possible solution would be to allow staff to change between jobs , in between shifts so that no one person need to be fully stationary if they didn’t want to be.
The recent exhibit that we’d gone to was entitled “Jerusalem 1000 – 1400 Every people under the Sun”, which demonstration the significant landmark that the “ Holy City” would become in shaping art during that time period. Jerusalem attained a un precedented significance due to its location, as it became a symbol destination to people of all faiths from Iceland to India. The multiple religious beliefs and traditions, fueled by the almost universal preoccupation with the city, gave rise to one of the most creative periods in history. Through both times of peace and war Jerusalem remained a constant source of beauty and complexity. The exhibition from the moment you enter begins in a dimly lit room with several projection of what almost seems to be an empty city. The entire exhibition has writing all over the walls about what life was like during the time period. I would later go on to watch a video playing during the exhibition that gave more insight to the city, and it claimed the wonderful thing about the city I couldn’t help but draw the comparison to my own city New York while I could have Jerusalem in those year. Jerusalem was the home of a many cultures, faith & language; as well as being home to some of the most incredible artist of the time period all lending to the aesthetic of the diverse city, very much like the modern New York City.

  2. For my assignment, I went to New Roc City. New Roc City is a perfect place for family or group trips. It is located in New Rochelle, NY, about 25mn to 30mn from Manhattan. It’s a huge place, with plenty of parking that provides that endless choice of activities that can be done with others or alone. The arcade area was one my favorite part of New Roc City, they have tons of arcade games and several other games and ways you can play to earn tickets. Then the tickets can later be used to redeem prizes at their gift shop. The tickets don’t actual print out, they’re just digitally transferred to the card you used to put money on to be able to play. So the balance of your credits and your total tickets are on the same card. I thought this was a good sign because any company that takes advantage of the paperless options is somewhat helping the environment. They also have a laser tag arena, but it takes forever to enter the arena due the all the safety videos required to watch by every single individuals before they are allowed to enter the arena. There are at least three videos, and they are usually watched by both groups that are about to go head-to-head; and there are also no way to skip the videos. They consider safety a serious matter. They also have bowling spot with more than fifteen bowling lanes. The service there was ok, I did not really get the chance to try any food or any drink, so I’m basing my statement on how friendly the staff was. What I enjoyed the most was the mini golf place they have, it was the first time I ever played mini golf and i do not regret it a bit. The employees there are very outgoing and friendly, and they provided more than enough golf balls for us to enjoy a fun and friendly mini golf game. I even won a golf ball that I got to go home with. They also had a pool table and table tennis spot that I did not have the chance to check out, and also a Go Kart race track, and a few food places. They had a nice looking bar with an appropriate mood by the bowling spot that I would have loved to try but was not able to. Like I said, it’s a huge place, and I did not have the chance to visit it all. I liked the place a lot. It can be used for birthday parties, graduation parties, family trip, group friends trip, solo trip, even for a date. This attraction is so unique because of all the diversity they have available to their guests. If perhaps you went there to watch a movie and the movie is sold out, you can do so much things while you wait for the next available show. All the employees that I met there were friendly and made me feel welcomed. There are a lot of Hotels in the area and the majority of them use New Roc City as a source of marketing to attract guests, including Marriott. So I’d imagine that those Hotels guests contribute to a good portion of their revenue. Considering that New Roc City is good place to meet up for some lunch, a drink, a movie, or even a bowling match.
