Reflection #2

Read the following quote by Dr. Pamela Brown, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs:

“Learning is a source of hope for a better future. It requires hard work and sacrifice which can be even more difficult in challenging times. Your time in college is also your opportunity to connect with others, lift your spirit, enrich your life, and develop the skills and knowledge to make a difference in your community.”

When faced with a difficult situation, I typically rely on a combination of patience, planning, and asking for help. In high school, when my workload became overwhelming, breaking tasks down into smaller steps really helped me keep things manageable. I also didn’t hesitate to reach out to my teachers or classmates when I needed clarification or support. I learned the importance of taking breaks and finding balance so I didn’t get overwhelmed. These strategies have helped me stay focused and resilient, and I plan to carry them with me into college to handle any challenges that come my way.

Breaking tasks into smaller pieces is a great way to go. Picking it up piece by piece till you get it right. I will consider this anytime a situation arises.

      Hi Mahmoud,

Anytime I find myself in difficult situations, I re-evaluate myself and try to retrace my steps back either academically or in real life events to know where I was lagging, sometimes I see where the problem was and I will try doing it in a different way. And if I still find myself hanging? I don’t hesitate in asking for help from my peers that understand the situation more than I do. I consider every option presented to me and go for the most feasible ones, it always works out for me at the end, I just make sure I don’t give up.

I think that we should all learn from you how to handle ourselves in difficult situations. I admire how you choose to re evaluate yourself and go back to the problem, because that is not easy. Most people says that it’s too hard and they just leave the problem without finding the solution to it. So yeah the most important thing in life is not to give up. As soon as you work hard and don’t give up, you will see the success. So let’s all do our best during this whole new chapter of our lives. 🙂

Your approach to re-evaluating and retracing your steps is very thoughtful and shows a strong problem-solving mindset. It’s great that you’re open to asking for help and exploring different options—these are important traits for growth and success. Nice post!

  4. Dwann

When faced with a difficult situation, I would break up what I had to do into smaller pieces and then see what I would have to do in a given time frame to solve the problem. I would do this especially when I procrastinated on assignments. This thinking would allow me to finish assignments that I had put off for a long time.

    • Darien00

This is definitely a great method and will use it as well, breaking down assignments or things that need to get done into smaller pieces or making a schedule and doing each for 1 hour a day, which could be studying for a test or finishing a paper or home work instead of letting it pile up and waiting for the last day to finish everything .

    • Nazia Mahmud

      Hi Dwann,

Breaking tasks into smaller pieces is such an effective way to tackle challenges, especially when catching up after procrastinating. It’s great that you’ve found a strategy that works for you. Nice post!

Hi, I’m Shahzoda, and I mostly have bad academic habits, but now that I’m in college, I think it’s time to change for the better. I used to do badly at high school because of these habits. Therefore, I want to work hard and do my best in my college era. I will try to maintain a daily routine which will help me keep up with my tasks. I will also try to do things on time, whether it’s college assignments or housework. Now that these are my own responsibilities in life, I will try my best to be responsible enough. These are some positive academic habits I can upgrade on, however as I continue college, I think there will be more positive habits I can improve on. 🙂

When faced with a difficult situation, I usually like to break stuff down slowly and take one thing at a time or just asking for help. In high school, when I felt like things got overwhelming, I would take a break and try to clear my mind and relax before having a mental breakdown due to me stressing over one thing. Of course I would usually try to get help from a teacher during their office hours after-school . There were times where the teacher was out for the day or maybe took a vacation so I would have to try to get myself to think that in life we run into many problems but never does it mean that it won’t have a solution. As long as I break things down and keep myself organized I’m good.

    • Nazia Mahmud

      Hi Yahira,

It’s great that you’ve learned to break things down and take things one step at a time. Taking breaks and seeking help when needed are excellent strategies to manage stress. Staying organized and keeping a positive mindset that problems have solutions will help you stay resilient—those habits will definitely serve you well in college!

  7. Darien00

creating positive academic habits for myself is extremely important this year and the way I plan on creating these habits are strictly studying in the library for I feel less distracted and more peaceful with silence and also my cellphone off for two hours or as long as it takes me to review the classwork and finish homework or assignments. I will also sign up for tutoring just to make sure I understand the work to the fullest.

    • Nazia Mahmud

      Hi Darien,

That sounds like a great plan! Studying in the library, turning off distractions, and using tutoring will definitely help you stay focused and on top of your work. Nice post!

When I face a problem, I tend to stay relaxed and avoid stressing out. Instead, I choose to remain calm and focus on finding ways to fix the issue. Some of the techniques I use include simple things like listening to music or practicing breathing exercises, which help me calm down. However, the most effective method for me is talking to my parents. Asking for their advice or simply having someone to talk to helps relieve my stress, allowing me to focus on finding solutions rather than dwelling on the problem.

    • Nazia Mahmud

      Hi Christopher,

It’s great that you stay calm and focus on solutions. Listening to music, breathing exercises, and talking to your parents are excellent ways to manage stress. Having a support system is key to staying grounded and finding effective solutions. Nice post!

I can develop positive academic habits by having a brief rest day occasionally. This will help me from burning out from college and at the same time let me have a moment of peace. Another positive habit is doing work and or assignments as early as possible, so I won’t have to worry about it later on.

    • Nazia Mahmud

      Hi Zackary,

Taking occasional rest days will help you recharge and avoid burnout. Getting assignments done early is also a great habit, it’ll reduce stress and give you more free time.

    • Jesse

      Hi Zackary,

I totally agree with your post, taking a break from time to time to avoid burnout. At the same time, completing assignments as soon as possible.
