Starting my walk today I went around City Tech with no actual plans to where I wanted to go since I don’t really know the area as well as I would like to, that being said let me describe my tiny adventure around Jay Street! First off exit from the Johnson Street side, the one with the construction going on as you walk towards this street you’ll be greeted with sounds of cars, trains and indistinguishable voices. Now keep on going after a bit of minutes of walking you can look to your left and see a concession stand with people waiting on line to get some food you’ll also be able to see or take the subway if you desire. As you might see there is some trees and much leaves go through there, as you walk you will come across people being people and enjoying the day. Now keep on going and you’ll see a Five Guys, now why a Five Guys? I was hungry that’s why. Now make a right you should be able to see many buildings out into the distance also if you look to your left there will be a nifty map to help you out in case you are ever to get lost. Now keep walking and go past the metal poles and keep on walking you’ll come across a blood donor center in which you can go donate blood  to save a few lives. Now here is one of the instances I see in which I see two New York’s the building behind the small one makes it look as if a line that divides the newer and more nicer looking building from the ones that are more run down and have more history behind them. As you keep walking north the divide becomes more evident the buildings aren’t as nice looking as they were around City Tech, once you pass the ASA learning center look to the sky and to look at a towering building that in a sense makes it look as this area is closed in similar to an oasis in the desert, only that in this case the desert is the newer Jay Street and Willoughby Street is the oasis in the desert. Now walk north towards Willoughby Street and keep walking north till you come across Lawrence Street make a left and you’re in the Fulton Mall.  Keep on walking north and you’ll be greeted by various noise ranging from people to buses along with the many noises you might also be greeted with delicious smells depending on your tastes, I found it rather delicious but then again I was hungry. Now as you walk you will eventually come across Bridge Street make a left and see another entrance to the train station this time it’s the 2 and 3 lines ignore this for now or take it if you’d like. As you walk you’ll see a building that is currently under construction and along with that building there is many noises from industrial equipment. For our last stop keep on going straight and take the R train lines.P1010677P1010678P1010679P1010680P1010685P1010686P1010690P1010693P1010694, and now where? Well for me it’s home and that was my adventure around the neighborhood that surrounds City Tech.

Hello my name is Alexander Guerrero and I’m a freshman at City Tech who is attempting a major in Graphic Arts. What do I hope to achieve this year? I hope to grow as an artist and as a person. As for my aesthetic I would consider it to be cartoony with a hint of realism, what influenced this? Well mainstream Japanese culture did, I’ve always loved the way anime tells stories that can be bittersweet. What makes me passionate? Video games and seeing others do great things! Just seeing how people draw amazing creations on the internet gets me in the mood to make my own concepts. Now why video games? I’m passionate about video games because just like books they are able to take you into new worlds with an added interaction books just normally aren’t able to provide. As a novice artist who is learning art truly for the first time I can’t say I have a plan, but I do have an idea of what I want to do in life. One of my goals in life is to do charity work through organizations like Child’s play or Extra life that raises money through video games.

What brought about choosing a eagle as my avatar?  In reality it’s the traits this bird posses that I hope to emulate in my life. One of these traits is fearlessness and the way they’re able to take on a challenge without being afraid. Another trait they posses is vitality and their desire to keep on living. Their tenacity is also another trait and their ability to take risks in where others would move out of the way. Lastly is their ability to nurture their young and their patience towards them. In my eyes the eagle is a true example of a leader and is a paradigm I strive to be because leaders grow along with their peers and strive to bring out their full potential. While there is more characteristics that portray them as leaders, these are the ones that stand out to me the most in relation to what I was taught as a child by my parents. These are the main reasons as to why I chose the eagle as my avatar not to mention it looks as if it’s smiling which also gives it a gentle aura of some sort.

While it’s rather difficult to misinterpret my avatar due to what an eagle means. However some people might assume that I’m aggressive seeing how eagles are birds of prey. Another assumption people might take into part is that I’m patriotic but this isn’t exactly the case since I don’t exactly take my home country all that seriously, though world events do peak my interest. However some people might take the eagle into a negative context by attaching stereotypes of a typical American. What some people might assume is my ethnicity but then again it doesn’t bother me all that much , overall in my opinion it is rather difficult to misinterpret my avatar.

This e-portfolio means quite to me it stands as a record to who I am in the beginning of the year to who I become at the end of the semester. I want to convey the image of a person willing to grow and constantly keep on advancing. I hope that this e-portfolio shows my growth and progress to becoming a smarter and overall better individual who will one day become a contributing individual of society. This portfolio will be my legacy that I will leave behind and will shape who I am in the future.

Pedigree- Noun

Definition- The origin or history of something or someone usually when it’s good or impressive.

Where I found this definition: http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/pedigree

I discovered this word during my many visits to the pet store and the costco warehouse.

I understand this word by thinking of dogs and the way they are classified. The dog is pedigree and is not a mixed breed.

Gilt-Noun and at times a adjective

Definition– It refers to having a thin layer of gold or something that resembles a golden color. It can also be used to refer to a young female swine.

Where I found the definition of Gilt:  http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/gilt

I Discovered this word when I saw it on the list of definitions

The way I understand this word is by thinking of fake jewelery that resembles gold. That piece of jewelry is actually metal with a gilt coating.

Hello my name is Alexander Guerrero and I’m a freshman at City Tech who is attempting a major in Graphic Arts. What do I hope to achieve this year? I hope to grow as an artist so that I can branch out and move into other things rather than just specialize in art. As for my aesthetic I would consider it to be cartoony with a hint of realism, what influenced this? Well mainstream Japanese culture did, I’ve always loved the way anime tells stories that can be sweet but bitter at the same time. What makes me passionate? Video games and seeing others do great things! Just seeing how people draw amazing creations on the internet gets me in the mood to make my own concepts. Now why video games? I’m passionate about video games because just like books they are able to take you into new dimensions with an added interaction that books normally aren’t able to provide. As a novice artist who is learning art truly for the first time I can’t truly say I have a plan, but I do have an idea of what I want to do what I want to do is give back to the community by drawing and playing video games for charity the way other popular people on Youtube do.

What brought about choosing a eagle as my avatar?  In reality it’s the traits this bird posses that I want to emulate in my life one day. One of these traits is fearlessness and the way they’re able to take on a challenge without being afraid of the challenge. Another trait they posses is vitality and how they are able to bounce back and their desire to keep on living. Their tenacity is also another trait and their ability to take risks in where others would move out of the way. Lastly is their way of nurturing their young and their patience towards them. In my eyes the eagle is a true example of a leader and is a paradigm I strive to become because leaders grow along with their peers rather than being the boss of their peers, and strive to help everyone grow to bring out their potential. While they have more characteristics that portray them as leaders these are the ones that stand out to me the most in relation to what I was taught as a child by my parents, this is why I chose the eagle as my avatar not to mention that it also looks like it’s smiling which also gives it a gentle aura of some sort.

While it’s rather difficult to misinterpreted my avatar mostly because the traits it portrays are the traits I want to emulate. However some people might take it that I’m aggressive seeing how eagles are birds of prey and that they hunt. Another assumption people might take into part is that I’m patriotic this isn’t exactly the case( I have pride for both countries that I belong from, Mexico and the U.S) since I don’t exactly take my home country all that seriously, though world events do peak my interest. Overall it’s rather difficult to misinterpret my avatar.

What I want to portray in my profile is somebody willing to learn and to grow. I want this profile to portray my growth and journey to becoming just like an eagle, Tenacious yet kind. It matters to me because I want to develop and not stay stationary because the world is constantly evolving and waits for no one. More importantly I want this portfolio and profile to be a legacy of sorts that separates me from who I was before.

12 Thumbnail drawings through my window frame

Outside my window many sights are obscured by the many buildings that cuddle up against my building but in a way that is what makes it pretty inspiring. In the morning it isn’t much of a sight to behold but it does have a somewhat nice view of the freedom towers in the distance. However it is the night in which my apartment window is able to make an impact. When it becomes night the lights in Manhattan illuminate the sky and give me hope that with enough work I will be able to make it where no one in my family has gone before. The way the lights cut through the darkness reminds me of hope and how at the times in which it feels most hopeless there is a chance to make it. Light has an interesting effect in the darkness as it brings some visibility to shady figures but at the same time gives it a mysterious familiarity to it. When I see outside my window at night I see a dream and a possibility to make that dream come true.
