This week’s assignment was to render the sentence “The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog” by tracing the text font we chose in class. While demonstrating our knowledge of kerning, tracking and leading.

I chose Source Code Pro in regular font printed at 50pts. Below is my final results:

While creating my first line I noticed that some characters looked very strange when placed next certain other characters, at least while using the same kerning I had used for the rest of the characters. Some of the trouble characters were the “T” next to the “h”, the “Q” next to the “u”, and the “F” next to the “o”. This led to me changing my approach and making more conscientious choices about the placing of characters next to each other, which in turn, led to a better understanding of the importance of kerning and leading in typography.
