HW for Tue 10/15

1. Find an image related to an argument/thesis you’re thinking of writing about for your Essay 2.  Post this image (or a link to it) to the blog along with a paragraph or more of description, including the following:
–the “context” in which you found the image: the way you searched, the website you found it through, the person who took/created it and/or posted it
–the “idea” or “message” expressed by the image and its significance (why this idea or message matters–and to whom)
–the “action” represented in the image and how it connects to the “idea” or “message”: where this action is taking place, who the characters of this action are, what they look like, what they are doing, what they might be feeling/thinking/etc. (Note: if your image has no “characters,” that’s fine–just describe the details of the image and the actions/ideas represented in it as best you can)

  1. I got this image from google by, simply searching up, “examples of why memes are good for us” and I pressed on the images tab and came upon this meme. This image was uploaded by, Paul Gil, a former technology writer for lifewire. Gil, was arguing as to why memes are good for us in his article, ” What is a meme?” and he used this image to basically prove his point. Anyways, I choose this image because, it matches exactly what I am going to talk about. I decided in essay # 2, I am going to argue why memes  are an intelligent form of cultural commentary that creates nothing but, laughter and bond amongst the people in our society. Pertaining to the image, we see Leonardo DiCaprio( A.k.A the great Gatsby) holding a glass cup up signifying cheering to something. In the context it was used though( the meme), he is cheering to all the good memes we have today that, makes us laugh and bring us joy. This image of Leonardo DiCaprio was taken form the 2013 adapted film, “The Great Gatsby”.  It’s a really great movie. The iteration of the image online can be found in the second theatrical trailer for the film which was released on December 2oth, 2012. the image can see found at 43 seconds into the trailer where, Gatsby raises his glass to the camera.  For those who don’t know anything about it, “The Great Gatsby is a 1925 novel film written by American Author F. Scott Fitzgerald that follows a cast of characters living in the fictional towns of West Egg and East Egg on prosperous Long Island in the summer of 1922″( I got this summary from Wikipedia).

  2. I got this image from google by searching up, ” the American dream ” and I pressed on the images tab and chose this. This image was uploaded on https://www.kickstarter.com,I choose this image because it was colorful and had the idea that I was thinking, in essay # 2 I wanted to make an argument why the American dream is not Possible. in our society immigrants especially believed the AMERICAN DREAM and that they could one day achieve success by working hard. Kara Kurcz made the image since she wanted to show there two sides to the American dream, one that thinks it doesn’t exist and others who actually made it.

This image shows how the police officer was trying to use excessive force even though the person he was trying to arrest was already down. In this case the officer would not have to take any extra measures due to the fact that the victim was bleeding out therefore, the cop is not under any risk.  To me this image is an example of police brutality. just imagine how confused or aggravated the victim is probably feeling due to the vile actions of this police officer. In my opinion police brutality is a very important matter that should be dealt with.

My argumentative essay issuing tone based on video games leading to behavioral violence. The image I chose expresses that not to long ago video games was an issue towards violence until the violence became dormant, until about a year ago violence has peaked in the adolescent age tied to all the violent video games being produced. This idea matters to all of society because it can’t only affect adolescents but it can affect everyone and anyone is capable of violence. The character in the image is shown digging up the grave about violence to video games as if video games had an upraising  in society again.  I found this image by searching in google “ video games causes violence” which linked to this website http://www.myconfinedspace.com/2018/03/17/video-games-cause-violence/
Which was published on March 17th, 2018 by a user named tiki god.

  6. This is  my image. I found it by searching “rated R” in google images, it is on a Hollywood  News page, specifically the image is on an article titled  ” Almost 60% of movies since 1968 have been rated R” by Ryan Scott. The image and article directly relates to my thesis since I want to talk about how movies are rated R for the smallest chance of offending some spectator that believes a movie should never have hidden jokes for the adults or deal with serious topics as sexuality because a 15 years old kid is too young to create his/her own ideas. The image doesn’t have a specific meaning but represent everything that I want to talk about on my writing .

  7. Link to my image:

I found this image by searching the topic I chose “do violent games make people more violent”, and clicked that ^ link; this images was created by SuitablyBored. The significance of this image is to help send my message that an entertainment sect does not cause violence in the real-life world unless the person chooses to apply what they play in real life. Blaming it on video games is simply trying to avoid bigger problems in the world. I mean come on haven’t you seen what happened to people in the cold war, world war I, The Holocaust, did they have video games then? This image is taken from a video game act where an anime character is shooting his enemies. They are created in a way were the rivals are the ugly-looking characters covered in armor to protect themselves. The shooter fighting his opponents is also the person with the camera so it is a first-person point of view. He sends explosives to his enemies property, then starts to aim at them to complete his mission. Clearly, this image is something that would be in a fantasy world not in the real-life. A person that would use video games as an excuse to a horrible act they committed in real life is a fool.

  8. Do Video Games Cause Violence

    https://www.reddit.com/r/dankmemes/comments/cmmpj7/such_violence/

The way I searched for this image was typing “Video Games cause violence Memes” into the google search bar.

The idea of this image is that majority of games that are played are not as violent as they seem. So generalizing the word video game by saying “Video Games cause violence” is a completely false statement. The woman in the image represents the woman shouting that video games are the cause of some category of violence. While on the right side of the image the cat represents the players of games with the caption “Fishing in minecraft for 5 hours” minecraft is a game where you can cook, fight monsters with swords and bows (basically medieval weapons) and last but not least taming cute animals. The media is being represent as dumb thinking that video games are the cause of violence.

  9. White nationalism in America is the first thing that I searched up. As I scrolled past some images there was something that I just had to look at again because of the way the image was. There were a lot of snakes they were all inside of what seems to be a phone. There was a small boy being pulled in by the snakes. This kid was not just any kid he was a “white child”. For years we have been taught and told to fear snakes. We are told, “They are dangerous, they are sneaky.” This perception has been embarked on us for centers even in the bible we are told a story of a snake being manipulative and it is related to the devil. This image of the red snakes’ represents a political party in the US.

  10. The picture can be found by clicking on the following link and going to the 32nd slide: https://www.slideshare.net/betlsmeyyezgn/violent-video-games-48772891
I found the image by searching up “games cause violence” on my web browser and it was one of the first images. I tried finding the source by clicking the website that was affiliated with the picture but I only found someone’s slideshow discussing the same topic. The image’s is expressing the idea that it cannot be video games, or cannot just be video games that cause violence. In this image there is a male person sitting down playing video games and then there’s an arrow pointing to another panel with the same person aiming a pistol. This is all under the caption “it is an inevitable process:.” And the following caption, under those two images, reads “what else could it possibly cause it?.” The panel under that caption has factors that actually cause violence crossed out and pointing to video games as the cause. Factors such domestic violence, parental non involvement, alienation, and community. I chose this picture because it’s one of the idea’s that was in my essay.

The image shows us that climate change is a global issue that impacts every aspect of human society. The fact that most of our daily necessary things and eco sources come from fossil fuel and oil production, which are the main reason for the earth’s temperature to be increased in the last couple of years. When we use coal, oil, and gas, we let out greenhouse gases. Greenhouse gases trap heat in the air and make the global warming.

I found this image by searching up “police brutality” it was posted on a pinterest account, the message of the image is pretty clear as we see police pointing a gun at a baby in a carriage with his toy and saying “drop the weapon “meaning that police often shoot innocent people because they are being “threatened” by them when thats not really the case the police actually attacks the innocent . The mother is walking with her baby and the police suddenly points a weapon at the baby as it is a “threat” to me them when in reality there is no harm whatsoever being done, this shows real world problem because people have been treated unequally and even killed when they are no threat to the police but they feel “threatened”

  14. After a couple scrolls on google image search, I stumbled upon a picture of a white background with a scale in the foreground. On each side was a silhouette. On the left was a woman and on the right was a man. The scale was tipped so the male’s aide was heavier. This ties to my essay in the stanza that speaks about inequality in gender. My essay defines inequality as the marginalization and indignities visited upon a certain group of people. Just like the woman in the picture society seems to value male gender more than they do women. A woman could be equally qualified for a position but is paid less. Even in simple social settings the male is seen as a more authoritative and credible source. This picture was a perfect gateway to introduce my other points which were inequalities faced by people of different races and sexual orientation.

In this image we see a pistol wrapped with the USA flag and on top its shows the number of people died because of gun violence in some European countries and Canada. And it also shows the number of people died because of gun violence in USA. Its truly unbelievable to see the difference between other countries and USA when it comes to murder caused by gun violence.
