Course description:
Gender, Dress, and Society explores the relationship between clothing, identity, and social behavior. The course examines theories related to appearance, fashion, and dress, and how they influence cultural identity, gender perceptions, and fashion consumption. Students analyze dress as a form of communication that reflects individuality while also signaling social roles, cultural values, and positions within systems such as family, religion, and economics. Through readings, discussions, and analytical assignments, students evaluate how clothing and body image affect human behavior and how fashion operates within social and cultural contexts both in the United States and globally.
