In March 1988, McNeil Pharmaceutical began selling loperamide as an over-the-counter drug under the brand named Imodium A-D (generic name). As of July 2016 Johnson & Johnson Consumer Inc., McNeil Consumer Healthcare Division are the labelers to the product.
Imodium is a medication used to treat diarrhea and its related symptoms. Imodium works by slowing down your gut, which decreases the number of times you make a bowel movement. The product aims to make your stool less watery. Imodium comes in soft gels, liquid solution, caplets, multi-symptom relief caplets and liquid designed for children. They are number one doctor recommended for treating diarrhea in over the counter medicine. Imodium has two active components used to regulate your bodies bowels. They are known as loperamide and atrophine. Loperamide is used because it helps your body get back to its regular absorption of fluids and salts; Atrophine is used to reduce spasms of the bladder, stomach and intestines.
Diarrhea can occur because of stress and anxiety. The reasons can be as random as a food intolerance, food poisoning or the flu. Sometimes it is even a side effect to certain medications.
